remote control delay for vip211

It appears that I need to wait a while to use the remote control once I turn on the receiver and TV. I can turn on both, but I have to wait until the information window pops up. After that, I can used the remote control to change channels. Is it how it supposed to work?

I had a similar problem when I first got my VIP211 hooked up last April. When I turned on the TV and Receiver I was not able to use the remote for from 5 to 15 minutes to control anything . I could not change channels, get the guide or menu, etc. After numerous phone calls to tech support and the replacement of the receiver, and remote, and three service calls, none of which helped the situation, they finally determined that the tv remote signal was interfering with the signal from the remote to the receiver which apparently happens with some tv's. ( I have a Samsung 40"LCD LNR 408D. ) Their solution was to install an IR to UHF Upgrade Kit which is very easy to do and it WORKS FINE NOW. Hope this information helps you.
