How can anyone watch standard def?

Whoa, mine was set to 480i too. I was just getting frustrated with how the dish signal looked worse than the OTA HD signal my aunt and uncle got at their place. So much better now...

Just wondering why 720 looks better than 480p if the TV upscales anyway. Haven't you been telling us that DVD upscaling doesn't matter because the TV has a better scaler?

720p looks better that 480p because you have so much more information to work with, regardless of upscaling. You cannot upscale a 480p picture and gain any definition, you just make the info you have cover more territory. With 720p the information is already there.

Jim, I was hinting at Stchmans repeated assertion that upscaling DVD's is useless because of the LCD's upscaling to natve resolution...
