Default Dish Networt and Direct TV using same Satellites?

Hello:

I am currently a Comcast HD subscriber who wants to dump them like yesterday. I ordered Directtv because I am a huge football fan, and their current promotion appealed to us as my wife and I are from Philly, now living in MI. We could watch all of our beloved Eagles games.

The Directtv installer came out to the house this morning. He looked at the sky through a scope that lines up with the satellites and told me that HD reception would be iffy at best due to trees in my front yard, but the SD birds clear the tree. I have learned from the township that these will be cut down in the next few months to make way for new water mains in my neighborhood. The installer then told me that Directtv, and Dishnetwork use the same birds for HD content. Is he just telling me this so I won't call Dish Network and order from them, or do the two services really use the same birds.

At this point, I do not care that Dish does not have NFL Sunday Ticket. I just want to give Comcast the boot.

Is what he said about the HD birds true?

Thanks!

They do not use the same satellites, but they are close to each other in orbit. DISH and DTV both have a 119 and a 110. If you can get DISH, you can get DTV.

Directv and Dish do not use the same SAT's but some of them are in the same general locations. Directv has SAT's at 99,101,103, 110 and 119 with Dish primarily using 61.5, 110, 119 and 129.

I would call local installation company and tell them that you are looking at getting Directv or Dish and have them come out and give you a second opinion. Some installers will tell you that you have a line of sight problem to avoid doing an install that my take some time to complete.

I wonder if installer get paid for the amount of installs they do per day? I guess they would not do more complex install since they can do 3-4 simpler installs and get paid more. Lazy or money hungry.

Some installers get paid by the hour. Mostly the larger regional outlets.
I get paid by the job/number of recievers.

Call a local Retailer. And, we'll check your receiver in the store for free. If you can reach your LNBF, we'll check it for free too!!!!

Wrong. They are different positions, but they are VERY close. The point is almost identical, a few degrees off for the 110 and 119.

they both head southwest. That's not to say a smidge wouldn't make a difference, but I wouldn't bank on it.
