Default External Hard Drive to USB Port

I have an external hard drive, Ultra ULT31310 with a Seagate 250Gb drive, and when I hook it up to the 622's USB port, the receiver does't recognize the connection. I'm assuming the receiver doesn't recognize the drivers for the ULT31310. Is there anything I can do to download recordings to this drive or another one? Has anyone hooked up a hard drive that you can download recordings to?

Dish has not activated the USB ports for downloading yet...another advertised feature for possible future use that will not happen anytime soon. Dish is good for that.

So they've only activated them for uploading pictures from a digital camera? I was able to hook up my camera and upload pictures with no problem at all.

The USB port works with PocketDish, and the last technical chat they said they were in beta with connecting a USB HD to the usb port. Hope springs eternal.

You need to remember that unlike a firewire connection - USB is not peer2peer networking - it needs a smart (computer) device to be connected to it - a camera, DVR, etc. are not smart in terms of USB - that's why they use firewire to talk to each other - but the USB only talks to a computer (usually)
