Default 622 install SUCCESS

Yahoo,

I am finally enjoying a 622 in all it's HD glory!!!

I traded up from a dish 500/921.

Ordered the 622 on 4/7 - received an empty box to return the 921, and a 622 about a week later.

Install date was yesterday 4/22 -

CSR on initial order was excellent. Yesterday, got a call from install service to confirm that I had received the 622. -

Scheduled 12 - 5...he showed up around 3:30 - excellent guy, seemed to have no problem switching out my dish 500 - I had swapped boxes before he got there, I don't like anyone touching my rack - not even my husband!

The only problem was, he couldn't get the box to upload the info. He did a check switch several times, (by unplugging the sat cable) which I now know means he was clearing the "matrix" each time, to try to get it to load. I absolutely had to leave, to attend an event with my kids - so, the tech authorized the box with dish, and said it should upload eventually....we all left with the "aquiring satellite" screen....since my 921 took 4 stinking hours to upload....I didn't think that was unusual. The tech had done some successful 622 intalls in my area, and said he only had one bad 622 so far! So, I left and hoped for the best.

Last night after three hours of that screen...I gave up and went to bed. This morning, same thing...logged on here, and got some good advice - to wit - unplug the sucker and plug it back in.....and, that did the trick!!

Everything seems to be working fine.....here are some things initially about the 622 that I notice:

1. as stated in other posts, the search function is a pain....you can't just type a word in and go...you have to theme it or categorize it first..lame

2. ota reception....it is cloudy here today, and I am using a set top antenna....located 6 channels so far, not bad....will try again when the weather improves...actually, I am only missing 1 major network, that I had before....

3. HD pq looks fantastic...better than 921? perhaps...need more time

4. PIP is now cool! you can pip HD channels too!! This is one "known" that causes some 622's to lock up.....everything so far is fine here

5. Sat strength is not as strong...had 91 on the 110 and 119 before, now those two are about 76 and the 129 sat comes in at 59 - however, I have not noticed any pixelation so far - and weather here is generally mild (Sacramento CA area)

Haven't had a chance to use a timer yet, and as for sd pq ..about the same ...using HDMI cable

Those are just some very quick assessments....overall, very pleased, and I have my fingers crossed that everything will continue without problems....just to be clear....this is a "c" version of the 622

So, my only advice on future installs....if you can't get the sat info to upload....unplug it - and do a hard boot before you give up!

Congratulations on finally getting everything to work. I was also able to get a couple more OTA channels with the 622 than I was able to pull with the 811. Because they are locals outside of my viewing area, there is no channel guide, since they aren't part of the locals included in the Dish local package.

Love the VOOM channels. Been watching alot of concerts on Rave, although I'm sure they duplicate frequently. Great PQ on both SD and HD!! Love the 622 even though I had to pony up the $300.

Yes, you can. Hit theme - curser left to keyword, select and type. Faster then hitting menu and a bunch of numbers first.

Just Leave The Choice At Top On What Your Are Looking For, I Leave It On Title All The Time. Type In What You Want Check Done, And Then You Will Get To Former Screen And Select Search And Wah Who You Get What You Are Looking.
The Other Part Is Good If You Are Looking For Something But Do Not Have A Definate Name. Like Check The Type Of Movies You Want And Select Search And It Will Give You A List Of All Of That Type Of Movies For A Week.

I too was a little hesitant on giving up the $299 for the 622. My brother has Charter and they rent you their HD STB for like $7 / month. He has had to wait over a month just to get that. A friend of mine works for Charter and he tells me that there is a 6+ month waiting list for an HD DVR. That blows. I got my 622 right away. I guess if you want to wait that long to save some cash, then go ahead.
