Default My Dish Network Saga comes to an end

My Dish Network saga has a funny ending:

April 1st – I call Dish Network to upgrade from the 921 to the Vip 622 receiver. I am told that the installer will bring the receiver to my house. Service is scheduled for Saturday April 8th. My credit card is charged $300.

April 7th – I call Dish Network to confirm my appointment for April 8th. I am asked if I received my receiver in the mail yet. I am told that the receivers need to be shipped out because the installers don’t carry them. I am also told that my 622 not only hasn’t been shipped out yet, but there hasn’t even been an order placed for it. The CSR places the order for the 622, my service for the 8th is cancelled and is rescheduled for April 17th. I am told that I have to wait 10 days from when the order is placed to when I can have it installed.

April 8th – At 11:30am, a Dish Network installer shows up at my house to install the 622. He has no idea that service has been cancelled and tells me that I am the 3rd house of the day he has shown up at where the 622 hadn’t been delivered yet. I call Dish Network to find out if the 622 has been shipped. I am told that it was shipped out on April 7th and a supervisor has guaranteed delivery by Thursday April 13th.

April 11th – I get a Dish Network email saying that according to their records, my issue has been resolved. Not quite.

April 12th – I call Dish Network to get a UPS tracking number for the 622. Instead, I am given the tracking number for the empty box they sent me for the 921. So I call back. I am told that the 622 hasn’t been shipped yet and it takes 30 days from the time the order is placed. I hang up and look up the phone number to Comcast. I call Comcast and I am told that if I want, I could have an installer at my house by 5:00pm today. I haven’t taken them up on their offer yet. I get home from work at 3:15pm and the freaking 622 is sitting on my front porch. LOL. I actually opened up the box just to make sure it was in there. It is.

I have learned from this experience that Dish Network has terrible customer service and these people who are looking at computer screens have no idea what they are doing. But they have a great product. I love the Dish, I love the programming, and I love the equipment. I just hate calling them.

I also learned that I shouldn’t have gotten all worked up over this. I have a brother in law in Iraq right now who is ducking bullets. He’s over there and I’m over here complaining about my satellite television. Kind of puts things into perspective.

Glad to hear you finally got to see light at the end of the 622 tunnel!

I'll post my experience later tonight... I'm currently downloading software on the puppy

I like how you chronologically formatted your post. I'll do something similar.

Just posted my chronology. I was downloading the latest software update... I think they're on L356. Once the software update was finished, I was ready to activate.

Default Be a bulldog!

Of course I know what you're going through. I'm a DISH customer too, and that says it all.

My 622 arrived one hour after the installer left. I called DISH and was told that I would have to wait an additonal ten days to have the new service installed. And of course I tried to argue with an oriental who could only barely understand English.

I insisted that DISH call the installers and have them come back that same day. I persisted with my demand long enough that they agreed to send an installer out in two days. I've since had my new service installed.

For me, DISH is the least incompetent of providers. Cable in our area charges $10 more than DISH and gives just five HD channels, so I bite the bullet. But I have never--but never--had a good experience with DISH.

These are the reasons why I use local installers instead of calling dish network directly. I had my 622 the next day and love it!

How did you do that? I went to a local dish installer and I was told that I couldn't get the 622 upgrade unless I signed up as a new customer with a different last name.

dave2503,
You must have started your Dish experience with an 800 number!
If you start with an 800 number, you are sorta stuck with it.

It's an easy explain: In the beginning, if you had used a local retailer, he is the provider/intaller on record! You upgrade later, you use the LOCAL retailer again = he can get you the receiver that day, if in stock, but most use a distributer and can have the upgrade receiver the next day!!

the DL issue: All virgin receivers, out of the box, first need a check switch done. Then comes the warning: Do not unplug your receiver - Vital Program Information is being downloaded - takes about 15 minutes. Then the EPG downloads. Now ready for activation.
We do this in the store (LOCAL REATAILER) to ensure the receiver is working properly prior to the customer install.

Call a local Retailer. And, we'll check your receiver in the store for free. If you can reach your LNBF, we'll check it for free too!!!!

Default How do I get a local retailer?

I called the local retailer who helped me get my 921, to now get the ViP 622. My local retailer told me to call DISH Network corporate! He doesn't want any business?

Do I have another recourse? Should I call a different local retailer?
