I was told by my DN installer that the Local HD Channels that I get through Dish Network-which are on the 129 satelite...the satelite signal strength can only go up as high as 60.Where I live the strength is between 50 to 57.Mostly 50. Iget an off and on pixelation of my local HD CBS And ABC..but I get KTTV HD and NBC HD sharp and clear with no signal problem.
I live in the Los Angeles area surrounded by mountains and ocean.Mountains in back of my place and ocean way ahead in front. Does anyone else here who has Dish network's Local HD channels in Southern California have similiar issues with it? I realize local HD is so new with DN..these many Local HD Channels. I just get worried when I hear that they are going to be adding more channels to the 129 satelite signal.Since in my area that signal is so weak. I get all my Voom channels great..though I noticed last night I now have Universal HD on 2 channels..is'nt that weird? I have my one Showtime HD and HBO HD channels. I had local HD once for a month with Adelphia cable and i do recall there were pixelation issues even with local Cable HD too.So I guess the cable and satelite companies have problems with local HD.

The Universal HD on channel 9426 is mpeg2 for the olympic coverage to be available to everyone with an HD package. It will be gone after the oylmpics are over. The signal strenth does seem kind of low, you may need the dish adjusted. 105 in my area was around 60-65 on good days, but that is an fss lnb. Dish is moving channels off that satelite (and 121 as well) in April because of the same problem.

Actually the Universal HD channel is permanently part of my HD package..OUR HD Package...true they are showing a few things from the olympics on this station..but most of the time shows like Law And Order are on and other series. I actually watch The Olympics on another channel -The New NBCH that is Only The Olympics coverage
CALL Dish Network and they'll confirm to you that I am correct about all of this. How in the world you got my posting all mixed up.I'll never know. I have Dish Network's Platimum Package and subscribe to all the HD channels.

50 on the 129 is a poor install. We get 80+ in Michigan, and it should be the same or better in your area.

To Rickbbb: you really have to start listening. Yes, I realize you have Universal HD on your HD package. I said that channel 9426 is for everyone (reguardless of mpeg2 or mpeg4) receivers to view the Olympics. I do not have an mpeg4 receiver yet, and many others who do not as well, so 9426 was put up for us to receive Olympic coverage which is why you see it on channel 9427 as well. Us with mpeg2 only see 9426 and it will disapear after the Olympics are over. It is more for customers like us than for you. Also, person from Michigan is looking at the same 129 as you are. He gets an acceptable signal in the 80's. You should too, your dish 1000 probably need a slight adjustment to get you past your problem with the channels being interupted.

I am in Arizona and have a separate dish pointed at the 129 satellite. The BEST signal strength I can get is around 67 with most transponders and in the high 70s with others. I checked with the local satellite distributor and he said that was about right for 129 in Arizona. I guess the signal strength varies depending upon what part of the west you live in. I don't have a problem with HD picture loss.

If I have excellent signal strength on my "old" 1/2 LNB sats, will I be OK on the HD ones?

I just spoke to a DN tech on the phone who told me when they were trained on the high def local channels they were told that the signal strength coming in for local HD would vary in different cities and states and different areas of those cities and states-strength range would be 30 and up.Also, the tech told me that it should'nt effect the way my picture looks-that problem is caused by my local broadcasters transmission of those local hd channels.choppiness and loss of picture I'm getting on some of my HD locals.
The tech reported my problem to the broadcasters of the CBS and ABC channels I'm having problems.I have no problems with my KTTV Local HD channel..and hardly any problem with my local NBC Local HD channel. Last edited by rickbbb; 02-13-2006 at 10:57 AM. |
