Just try and get a waiver from a CBS affiliate.... not as easy as it sounds.
I have been banging head with the station manager of WCAX in Burlington Vermont since December 2003 to get a waiver.... I'm still waiting...

I have just joined this forum and am not familiar with the term CBS/HDTV WAIVER which you requested from WCAX. What does the
waiver allow you to do? I assume it allows you to view CBS HDTV output without going thru channel 3? A few hours ago I sent an email to WCAX asking when they intended to start transmitting in HDTV. Is there anything I can do to help the cause? |

Click on the Learn More... link. This service is for rural locations primaraly, but the link will give you the details.
According to www.antennaweb.org WCAX is set to broadcast DTV on channel 53.1 but has gotten an FCC extention. More than likely that is why they are not giving out the wavers because they will have to start broadcasting DTV when the extention runs out. According to http://www.geocities.com/tvhatton/montreal.html it will be in the summer of 2006. Also from that link: One of the CBC's best kept secret is that although these HD broadcasts are not advertised as being available over-the-air, they can sometimes be seen on their channel 64 test signal, when it's working properly. Dish has moved all HD channels to 110 or 119 I can't remember witch. However CBS on either coast still needs an additional antenna pointed at it's respective sat.

I'm not certain, but I've heard that everybody has to xmit digitally by the end of 2005. But digital is not necessarily HDTV. I believe they're aiming to establish the digital standard as a platfom so that all broadcasters can then gradually upgrade their systems to HD. This is a major and very expensive upgrade, so we should expect this to be a soon-though-not-immediate change.

My daughter wants to watch American Idol on Dish. Does the American Everything Pak include Fox Network? I know it has Fox Sports and movies; but what about the regular programming?

is there not a single dish solution to receiving the package that I am signing up for (East Coast 120 value pack + HD)? After being told a couple of times that I do not qualify for CBS-HD, they now are saying that I do (and I had them mark that on my record so I will not have a hard time when I get it turned on), but need to have a second dish installed when they come out to install me... I thought that some of the more recent dishes that came out were able to get in all the locations on 1 dish (super dish?) - at least I will be able to receive 61.5 without having them come back out if and when they start using the new satellite... do they install both dishes on the same mast?

As I found with Dish you have to call, call, and call again to get the right answer from their customer service people. As a new customer, I'm surprised you are not getting the "Superdish". That's what I got installed last week Monday. It eliminates the need for the two dishes as you were told. I'm not sure why you are not getting it. If you click on the local channel link at Dish Network, you'll see a * next to the cites that require the "Superdish". If you see the * next to your city, you should get it as well.
And as an answer to question #2, I think the answer is yes. But it would look like hell in the back yard in my opinion. |

will the superdish get all the signals - from 61.5, 110 and 119? If so, why would they say they need a second dish installed? I am hesitant to call again, as I do not want to mess with someone else saying I can't get CBS HD and taking it off my work order... I am hoping that the install will not be in the backyard but on my house, thus the 2 dish on 1 mount thought...
