Default TWC/LA Lakers/LA Dodgers/Dish Network

Well today Direct Tv came to an agreement with Time Warner Cable to carry their Sport Net channel featuring Los Angeles Lakers basketball:

Quote:
Typically programming deals run for between five and seven years, which means fans shouldn't have to worry about being held hostage again for a little while. Time Warner Cable has the rights to the Lakers for the next 20 years and is paying an average of $150 million per season, according to people familiar with the contract.

With DirecTV out of the way, the last hurdle for Time Warner Cable is Dish Network, the satellite broadcaster that has about 850,000 subscribers in the region. Dish is a tough negotiator and so far little progress has been made in talks. However, now that everyone else is on board, Dish may feel it needs the channel to avoid being at a competitive disadvantage in the market.

Per the agreement, DirecTV is making SportsNet and Deportes available to all its subscribers. DirecTV initially wanted to put the channel on a specialty tier that subscribers would have to request to see. Time Warner Cable was greatly opposed to that approach because it would limit revenue from subscription fees and advertisers.

Now that Time Warner Cable has its distribution issues about wrapped up, it will probably start eying other sports properties. Its biggest fish is the Dodgers, whose agreement with Fox Sports' Prime Ticket channel expires next season. Fox Sports is currently in exclusive negotiations with Guggenheim Partners, the new owner of the Dodgers. That window is up at the end of the month, and if no deal is reached, Time Warner Cable has made no secret that it would be interested in getting the rights to the Dodgers.
So is Dish going to get it done or are we looking at losing the Dodgers as well here in SoCal?
*sigh*

Only someone at Programing can answer that. And if you can reach that someone, they won't tell you anyway until it's a done deal. Of course, then they tell everyone.

We understand how frustrating this can be and we are still in discussion with TWC at this time. We hope to add this channel soon.

So what is the status of LA Laker basketball on Dish in SoCal for year 2013/2014? (93004)

Anyone with news for next season?

Yep, my concern is no Dodger or Lakers available to me as a Dish customer in SoCal next year.
Unacceptable.

Quote:
The good news for other teams in baseball is the Los Angeles Dodgers will have to share with Major League Baseball a bigger chunk of the revenue than they thought they would from their massive regional television rights deal with Time Warner Cable.

The bad news is, particularly for teams in small markets like the Milwaukee Brewers, the Dodgers will be able to keep more than $6 billion over the course of the 25-year contract with Time Warner. That works out to an average of $240 million a year at the low end.

According to a recent story in the Los Angeles Times, which cited an anonymous source, the value of the Dodgers’ deal with Time Warner is about $8.5 billion. The Times reported that the Dodgers will end up paying $2 billion to MLB, which exacts a 34% levy, over the life of the contract. That money is distributed to member clubs.

The Dodgers are in the last year of a TV rights deal with Fox Sports which brings the team $39 million in 2013, with $13 million of that going to MLB, a net of $26 million
Only option for local sports will be TWC and Direct TV.
Not going to put up with this another year.

BIG Dodger fan here, but I 'm also not a fan of all these niche sports channels that think their product is worth boo-koo bucks.

Is there enough interesting material out there to fill a 24/7 Dodger channel, that is unless you want to perpetually relive the past - BORING!!

I am totally behind any distributor that refuses to knuckle under to this black mail.

I understand what you're saying, but it has already been a whole year without being able to watch the Laker games. Being able to watch the Lakers was one of the main reasons I got Dish in the first place.

I don't think anyone has an interest in a 24/7 Dodger channel.
But I do want to be able to watch every Laker and Dodger game as I have been able to for the last decade on Prime Ticket.
As the previous post stated it'a already been a year for the Lakers, I suspect it will be similar with Dodger availability.
Oh, during that year of no Laker broadcasts, I'm still paying full price.
How much extra money did Dish pocket not paying for Laker broadcast rights?

Incredibly another year has past and I as a loyal Dish Subscriber for years I'm looking at not having access to Southern California's 2 greatest franchises.
The Los Angeles Lakers and soon, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
I like my Dish hardware and programming and have no complaints except as a Dish Ssubscriber I'm denied programming to my 2 favorite sports teams subscribers to every other major Cable and Satellite provider are able to enjoy.
I've been extremely patient, but apparently have no choice as access to my 2 favorite teams are neither imminent, nor has a reduction in monthly subscription cost been announced.
What a shame.

Well hasta la vista Dish, just ordered an install for Directv on the 14th.
Still no Dodgers on Direct (yet) but I gain back the Lakers and just as good, NFL Sunday Ticket.
It's a shame, always liked Dish.
