Default How to record HD content on PC

Hi,

I have HD reciever (vip211k) and would like to record live TV on my media center pc (Windows 7).

I would also like to control the reciever from my PC (w/o using any remotes). Is there a solution on these lines?

Thanks
Chetan

Yes. The Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR Video Capture device will record in HD via component video + optical audio or stereo audio. HDMI recording is not allowed in the US. Plus it comes with IR emitters to control your STB or DVR for scheduling. It even has software for remote scheduling. It also has SD inputs for recording from a camcorder or VCR that can be selected via the software.

BlackMagicDesign Intensity is a PCIe card with HDMI inputs for recording directly from the HDMI output from your STB.

This has been mentioned before. But from what I can find it won't record if the HDCP flag is set. The HDMI is for a camera input, but it also has component video input that is supposed to work for HD recording. Do you have one of these?

But then the original poster was wanting something that could control his STB as well as record. The 1212 is the only thing I know of that will do what he wants. It is also compatible with Windows 7 Media Center.

See post #2. The Hauppauge 1212 works with any receiver or player that has component video outputs.
