Default DVR 722k Turns off - Big problem

I got a new DVr 722k which is connected to my Samsun LCD TV through a Harmon Kardon receiver through HDMI. My receiver (AVR 245) only does simple HDMI switching.
Everything is fine while I'm watching TV. If I turn off my TV and HK receiver and walk out of the roon, the 722k shuts down completely after 5 minutes. All lights off. It will shutdown even if a recording is in progress. And if I have any future recordings scheduled later, they dont get recorded. When I comeback and turn the TV on I see a black screen, when I have to reset the 722k which startups from scratch with thet satellite connection screen.
When talked to DISH tech support they claim it may the HDMI which is causing the problem. It seems HDMI is a two way comm and the TV is sending a command to turn off the 722k. This does not make sense at all. I've had 722 before this on HDMI and never ahd this problem. How can 722k let other devices control its power options and let it power off. The whole concept of DVR recording timer/schedule is up for a toss.
has anyone seen this before? Please help... I'm ready to get back to my old 722.

Go through your Samsung's manual, and see if there is anything in there about the TV controlling a DVD or Blu-ray player. That's the same thing. Each manufacturer has their own name for it (Sharp's is "Aquos-Link"). If you find that, turn that feature off. It's meant so that if you turn on your Blu-ray player or other device, the TV will turn on, or vice-versa.

If your TV is new enough (last couple years), that could be doing it.

Also, if the 722 didn't do it, and the 722K does, try paging through the setup on the 722K. There might be a setting there (I can't tell you, as I've only got a lowly 622...).

There was something called ANYNET+ CEC on my Samsung which I disabled, but that did not help. Is it my HK AVR 245 causing trouble?

Even if HDMI is causing issues, that should not completely pwer down the 722k. Isnt that a problem?

Yep. CEC is the animal. If you shut it off, then at least we know the set isn't sending anyghint go the receiver.

As for the HK, I can't say. I have an HK AVR 354, and don't have any trouble like this, but I don't have a 722k, either.

I wouldn't think it should completely shut off the 722.

Just out of curiosity, this doesn't happen at a consistent time, like 3:00 AM? That's the default time on most receivers to do their internal checks...

It happens 5 minutes after I turn off my HK & TV.
My old 722 had a problem of being shut down every morning (i guess after 3 am updates). Thats the whol reason I replaced my receiver to begin with. Looks like Im in a worse situation with 722k.

Try connecting the 722 directly to your display and running digital optical or coaxial to your HK for audio. If that resolves your issue, you know it is the HK receiver at fault (which I believe is the problem).

Thanks. I connected my Samsung TV directly to DVR 722k and the problem is gone. So that worked.
So is there a compatibility issue between AVR245 and 722k? Cos, it was fine with old 722.
Is there a setting in AVR245 that I can fix the problem with?

The problem may be with the HDCP and there is not much you can do about that. I would suggest contacting HK customer support and see if they have a firmware update for your AVR.

I am having the same problem, I dont have a harmon but the tv is basically sending a signal to the reciver to power down. Even when i fixed the option in the menu of the tv it still shuts off. All connected to seperate power sources!
