Default Reliability of 612 vs 722k?

My wife and I are considering the switch from cable to Dish. We're looking at using two HD dvr's. We have OTA signals available via antenna and with Dish. My wife is not interested in being able to record both OTA and Dish locals. A 612 would probably work best in her main tv watching location. The 722k is more to my liking and would preferred for the second tv viewing location. On pricing basis, there is no difference between 2-612 dvrs versus 1-612 and 1-722k.

But, from my reading on line, there sure seems to be many complaints about the 612. Am I misreading things? Is it preferrable to go with 2-722's to avoid hassles?

Thanks!

The ViP612 units are problem prone. The 722 is a much more reliable piece of equipment.

Hope this helps.

I don't want to scare you but I've just gone thru three 612's in the last two months. All of them produced broken recordings. I just got off the phone with a tech just now and asked for a different recorder or I would cancel. She said she can only send another 612. Other than that I've received only the best service. I've been a customer since they started. I can't believe it.

I'd ask for a different one.

Where do I go from here?

Tell them you want a 722 or even a 622 but you will not accept another 612 as it is a known defective device...

I did and they would rather lose me as a customer. They must have a lot of 612s or they just don't like me. (:
