Default 15 seconds between channel changes?

A Dish subcontractor came out 2 days ago and changed some of the connections on the back of my 46" Sharp LCD to eliminate the slight popping sound I got every time I changed channels and the rare occasion when the entire screen would go yellow-green and blank.

The above problems were fixed by connecting the satellite receiver directly to one the TV's HDMI inputs but connecting my combo DVD/VCR player/recorder to both the receiver and non-HDMI input using composite (red/white/yellow) cables.

Now when I change channels the identifying title bar of the new channel comes up immediately, then disappears while the entire screen goes black, and the new channel appears about 15 seconds after I originally pushed the Recall button on the remote (it's the same if I punch in the desires channel's number). This is true whether or not the channels are HD or not.

The picture is just as good as the previous connection. Is the lag due to the composite cables then?

Lag is usually due to the time it takes the receiver to "build" a complete set of frames to begin displaying.

This can be due to low signal quality.

What are your signal levels?

Otherwise it might be the receiver needs to be hard rebooted (it's brains are a bit scrambled).

He checked the signal levels, of course.

Strangely enough, after turning the receiver off at night (as suggested by Dish) and the TV, the problem has not recurred today, but it was consistent yesterday (a few times the time to change channels was the normal ~ 5 seconds

Nightly reboot cleared the garbage out of memory.

I was visiting my parents and they recently switched from dish to directv. After switching to direct, they started getting a similar problem. Everytime you change the channel, the info bar comes up quickly, but they get a grey screen for about 5 seconds. Not a huge ordeal, but this was something they never had a problem with when they had dish network HD.

How is it connected, HDMI or component? Do they have the DirecTV box set for 1080i only or native?
