Default Participate in TV Everywhere Trial‏ FREE SLINGBOX?

Hi all I just checked my email and i found this.

The TV Everywhere feature will be enabled with Sling's award winning technology (www.slingmedia.com). As part of your participation in the TV Everywhere trial, you will receive the free SlingBox solo unit (Retail value $199) and free professional setup and installation by a DISH Network technician. Once installed, you will be able to access, watch and control your TV at any time, from any location, using your PC at http://dish.slingbox.com/.

I am wondering if anybody else received this email. I'll happily take a free SlingBox in exchange for some surveys. I'll be calling tomorrow to schedule my install and I'll update tomorrow.

I would be very interested in a follow up on your install and any other information you can pass on. I've been waiting for the 922 to come out which has the sling-box built into in it, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting lol. Thanks

Just bought a Slingbox AV off ebay, works fine, only paid $75.

My upload speed is only 0.4MB so a faster unit wouldn't help much, but the picture is very good out of my 211 even off site.

Just like the 622/722 and 722k do 1080p on VOD, YES!

Dude, it's not like I am clueless... I thought I heard the 922 DVR will be capable to broadcast in 1080p for HD channels, not just VOD...

Unlike some VOD options, most broadcasting is not in 1080p. There could be other 1080p sources planned for the 922?

Wherever 1080p is available, any of the top receivers should be able to process it.

Some interesting impressions at "Satellite Guys" forum of some beta 922s being run through the hurdles.

NO OTA broadcasting is 1080p.

Stations could be 1080p24 but I have never heard of a station doing that.

There is just not that much demand for it and there is not that much visual difference from 1080i, especially to the 99% of us who do not have 1080p capable displays.

I'm not sure it is a hardware or software change that would enable 1080p24 for broadcast, so it might be what station managers deem an unnecessary expense.

Hi Dale...

Can you quote some please, or at least summarize for us? I'm not a member of the other site & it's a "private" thread~

Thanks!

There's a lot of posts kind of hard to 'summarize'. I just happened to notice that thread on the site the other day. Quite honestly I am not that interested in the 922 at this point, myself. I will certainly relay anything I do read of real interest.

I am a little surprised there is not more on the 922 on other websites. I don't think the interest is that high yet. I would think it would hit the street by the next CES show but that is only a couple of months away and it was a year ago that DN announced the product, and it got a fair amount of press back then.

My thoughts exactly! Just not sure why they would unveil it @ LAST years CES and STILL not release it to the public by now!!

Makes me think there are bugs, or pending legality issues (like with TIVO) or something.

The Tivo situation may have well forced them to delay a bit. They are teamed with Slingbox on this, and both could end up in a sling!

I am sure their lawyers are crawling all over it.
But I agree, the concept is good, and they should have it in production by now. Maybe the DVR to Wireless interface is of some concern. Tivo does make a wireless system too.
