Default How is Dish Compared to Directv?

Hello,

I have been a Directv customer for the past 2 years. I am thinking about switching to Dish because Directv flat-out lied to me about getting the HD package for free for 6 months. The only honored it for 3 months. Dish called me with a good offer which included the 942. How is Dish? How is the 942?

Thanks,

Josh

Right now, Dish appears to be in the lead. Especially capturing so many HD channels. In six months, things could turn around. It's a dynamic industry.
Personally, I would like to see all the hardware, especially receivers, available for after-market purchase. An FCC ruling that all providers need to have a standard interface. But I've been dreaming a lot lately....

The only reason to stay with DirecTv is to watch football. And they seem to have bungled that as of late. You will not get HD with the Sunday Ticket package - you have to also purchase their "SuperFan" package. And still not guarenteed all the ames in HD. I see a lot of people getting snowed not only into DirecTv's "SuperFool" package,,but also getting hooked for their ridiculous equipment prices. Unless you are a superfreak footballer - drop em and run to DishNetwork or cable.

Default Dish and 942 setup...

DISH in my opinion is the best for the HD viewer.

1. DirecTV does have the Superfan - NFL in HD...DISH does not.
but
2. DISH Network has all the Voom stations that DirecTV does not.

Cable - boy this is horrible...my father in law has cable with a new LCD and it looks bad because of the picture signal...

I currently own the 942 and it is simply fabulous!!!
I have tried the TIVO units on DTV and other units on DISH and this is by far the BEST unit I have ever used.

So in my opinion - I am very happy and would cry if you took away my 942 and DISH HD.

If their HD broadcasts number the same as ESPN-HD, then you're looking at at an HD channel that shows more SD content than HD content.

And DirecTV has missed their deadlines so often that I wouldn't put much stock in what they say until I turn on the TV and actually see the channel.

What it comes down to is: If we were to compare their packages right now, DISH has the VOOM channels and TNT-HD, which is big if you're a NASCAR fan or NBA fan, since the playoffs are simulcast in HD. On the other hand, the NFL Sunday Ticket is a necessity for some and is unavailable anywhere else but DirecTV..

Default Here's What Consumer Reports said.................

Consumer Reports said that Directv and Dish were equal in regards to visual picture quality.

I prefer Dish Network to Directv...I had Directv for a week last year.I was'nt impressed. It was more EXPENSIVE than DN...and the only extra thing they had to offer was FOOTBALL...big deal.

DN added VOOM HD channels...I have 23 High Definition channels-which includes CBS HD and all my HD packages..includes a couple
HD pay per view channels too...Plus NBA HD.
Directv has 5 HD Channels...hmm..who do I want more? Let me see...easy choice..Dish Network !
