Default VIP 722 DVR Problems?

We were watching football today and then all the sudden the screen went blank. The fan was running constantly with no picture and I couldn't get any tv to show anything. I called Dish and they said it was a receiver malfunction and are going to send a new one. This is only two weeks old, anyone else had any kind of problems like this?

I don't know if this is what happened, but the system will shutdown on a schedule you set up with the "Preferences" option in the MENU. I have mine set up to do that at 2 AM every day, and the feature supposedly allows for downloading updates and Program Guide information.

You may want to check what time is set up for this (using "Preferences" option, number 8, in the MENU).

I wouldn't be able to check it. I have no picture. The TV 1 light would come on for about 10 seconds (no picture) and then shut off. The fun was running very loudly and wouldn't shut off.

Sounds like your hard drive failed. You need to call Dish.

You wouldn't think it would be something major like that, its only 3 weeks old, but who knows. Called them this afternoon, they are sending me a new one out. Tried to get a free month of service out of them, but they are only going to prorate it out 10 days.

Well, got my new receiver and hooked it up. Everything seems to be back in working condition. When I was on the phone with the tech getting it set up, she said it sounded like the hard drive failed on my original receiver. Sent the old one back today. Now I have to wait and see if they pull a fast one on me and say they didn't receive it. They did that to my brother and the ups store said they have received complaints from people stating Dish has charged them for a receiver that they never received back, but in reality, Dish did receive and and were still trying to charge them for it. He never paid it for 2 months and it eventually went collections. He called the collections agency and told them the entire story and what do you know, the charge went away. Should be interesting.

Does the location, of your receiver, provide good ventilation?

Does your area have any weird power issues with brownouts?

Yep, it was sitting on a glass tv stand with over 1 foot of space on the back and a lot of space on all the other sides. Never noticed any power issues.

Unhappy VIP 722 Problems

For the past month I have had the same problem with losing the picture and the system not rebooting properly. After 10 - 60 minutes of standard troubleshooting (power switch, disconnecting power cord) the receiver reboots and operates fine. But this rebooting problem returns every day! I have had 4 Vip 722 receivers replaced, power lines tested, all antenna cable and antenna components replaced, and only 4 hours after a remanufactured receiver was installed today, I am having the same problem. The tech today said that the next time they will install a Vip 722K. Has anyone had similar problems and a solution? Thanks for any help.

My 722 is only 2 weeks old and already the DVR timers are vanishing. Well, the timers are still listed, but nothing is scheduled to record, even though we have more than 40 timers set. I've had to go through and redo every single timer. Anyone else ever have this problelm?

My 622 got stupid once.

Didn't record "House" even though there were new episodes on.

Timer was still there but no shows listed.

When I deleted the current timer and setup another one...then all the shows, showed up.

Weird.

I had this same thing happen to me this past Tuesday. The box reset itself and kept resetting a half dozen times. It eventually did not come back on and the fan would just run constantly with the green light going on and off. They sent me a new receiver yesterday and the same thing happened. It started resetting within 5-10 minutes of the setup process which took Dish over an hour to get me a picture. I switched outlets to verify my surge protector wasn't the issue and that did nothing. A tech is coming out tomorrow with another receiver. I am really frustrated. I just bought a new Plasma and can't even watch the baseball playoffs. Please advise on any possible causes or solutions?

I had this exact same problem with an interesting solution. After 4 VIP 722s were installed and replaced for this problem, all antenna wiring was replaced, and a new ground wire installed--all free by Dish techs. The problem turned out to be due to HDMI cables not syncing correctly. I upgraded to expensive HDMI cables and the problem continued. Finally, I switched from HDMI to component cables. There has been no degradation in picture quality and no further receiver problems of any type.

There is no difference what so ever from a $2 HDMI cable that is 1/16" dia and a $100 3/8" dia rip off monster cable. Digital is digital. Unless you go more than 50 ft or so then you will need a better Monoprice type cable never a Monster price. You probably just had a bad cable. Monoprice has the best cables & prices out there.
