RE: My earlier thread "DTV HD Receiver Email To DTV"
Here is DTV's reply to my email along with my follow-up question. It should be noted that DTV's response indicates that this entire matter pertains to "HD LOCALPROGRAMMING". 1953 -------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for asking about HD local programming. Our goal is eventually to offer HD programming from local channels to nearly every home we serve in the United States. And that’s not all. We will also be adding the capacity to carry more than 150 national HD channels as they become available. To accomplish this, we're launching four new satellites (the first one launched in late April). When the first two satellites are fully deployed later this year, they will allow us to deliver programming using a new transmission standard, which is the most advanced in the world. Customers will need a new HD receiver and satellite dish, compatible with the new transmission standard, to receive HD programming from local channels and other enhanced services. We don't have purchase or upgrade offer details for the new equipment at this time, but look for more details in the mail or on DIRECTV.com/HDTV as we get closer to launching local programming in HD in your city. Thanks again for writing and stay tuned to DIRECTV.com/HDTV for the latest news and announcements as they become available. Sincerely, Allan M DIRECTV Customer Service ___________________________________ My follow-up response to DTV's reply. Dear Allan, Thanks for the prompt reply. From your letter I see that this change pertains only to HD "LOCAL" programming. Our current OTA provides outstanding quality HD. Question: Will it be to our advantage to discontinue use of our OTA once DTV Satellite HD Local Programming is functional?

You can always keep it for PIP & a backup... but using the tuner in the Sat STB will probably be more convenient...

I'm very interested in your comment but do not quite understand. Please go into a bit more detail.
Also, we have standard Tivo upstairs with HD downstairs. I happen to have an auxilary cable running from the upstairs Tivo to the HD area. Could you suggest how I could put that extra feed to use with my current setup - HD and OTA HD running through the A10 and Harman Kardon for Audio. Thanks for your help. 1953

There are several things that come into play for this to work. For one thing, the TIVO unit is most likely IR remote, so you will have to purchase an RF unit to attach ti the TIVO unit. They have them at various places like at X10's web page. And, you are likely going to have to send the RG-6 cable to your TV/Monitor and loop your audio back to your stereo receiver.

I received a prompt and polite reply from DTV this morning stating that unfortunately additional information is not available at this time. The CS rep went on to emphasize the fact that HD programming will be greatly expanded.

Just curious. Is there a possibility that those who bought HD receivers are going to lose out and purchase a new one when they go to 4 meg? If this is the case just how much rip will people take from these providers? Could have it all wrong but it seems like they aren't giving those who purchased high dollar receivers a very warm fuzzy at this time.
