ya, comcast caught up to directv's HD this year in my area. They added a ton of new channels. Problem with comcast is their prices. Thats why i dumped them. I just have their cable modem now.

If it wasn't because cox phoenix is really lagging in hd selection, I too would be b!tching about DirecTV's "HD LEADER" claim. But I have the most hd channels I can get in my area since my other choices are dish and Cox cable. I am though bummed at ESPNU HD and I would like the availability of some more movie channels in hd. I have the premier pkge w/ HD add and hate the fact I have some pointless channels like "american auction network." What garbage tv channels those are and there are quite a few of them.

Wow, what a bunch of flamers (and I don't mean sexual preference). This guy started a thread about HD channels that are available that D* has yet to provide. While I agree his "HD Leader my ass..." comment was unnecessary he has every right to start a thread about this topic. But to discredit his list because you personally don't care about those channels is irrelevant as others may care about those channels. And to those telling him to get a life because he subscribes to all the channels you are being way too judgmental. If you don't like a thread move on.

I didn't even know TV-One had a HD channel. Although the list is long, so is the list for other HD providers. No one can carry all that Directv has plus the channels on that "master" list, at least no one can in 2009.

if this thread is a rant from a Comcast employee? I just counted the HD Comcast offerings and the total is 35 channels.
At the DTV post below, there are 105 HD channels. Granted, DTV is weighted by sports HD programing, but they still have ALL the HD channels I want and then some. IMHO, HD best serves sports and movies. Of course, I have an outside life and don't spend more than 2 hours on average watching all the crap on the 200+ channels that are being beamed around. FYI, crap in HD is still crap. Just better looking. Also, a lot of the HD programing is just standard video broadcast in HD. Hint, look for the grainy HD video. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global...oternavtype=-1 |

a Comcast employee? I've never been so insulted. Try a former Comcast customer.
I agree with yu on the movies part. Too bad half of the channels on my master list are premium movie channels. The only sports I care about are in market football and baseball though so I have no use for Sports Pack, especially in the winter. The only reason I started this thread is because they claim 130 national HD channels, which is a bold faced lie. 77 are national, and 63 are regional sports networks. They should change all advertisements to reflect this. A national HD channel should be defined as "available 24 hours a day without blackouts to ALL customers natiowide for a single flat fee, without having to purchase an out of market sports package." I don't think anyone could argue with that, and if they could they're obviously a DirecTV employee

To me a regional sports network becomes national if someone like me can view it out of region. And since I have the sports pack, an Arizona sports channel is a national one to me living in North Carolina. You can't make your own definition of what a national channel should be, if the "nation" can watch it, then it's national, whether you have to pay extra for it or not. Are HBO and Cinemax not national networks because you have to pay extra to get them?

Yes all premium movie channels are national because you pay a flat monthly fee for them with no additional super expensive out of market sports packages fees for the live games (which is the only thing worth watching on REGIONAL sports networks). In other words, they don't have blackouts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

directv still has more hd offerings than any other provider. yes other providers are catching up and directv needs to get on the ball and add more hd. this will take time and bandwidth to do. so at this time i would say directv is the hd leader even though i do agree they don't have 130 hd channels. pay per view and game only rsn's shouldn't be included. there are alot of channels on tomcat's list that i would love to see in hd, however i know that my patience will in time reward me with new channels in the future. the year is still young.
