Default HR22: Recording First Run Shows Only

When I set up my DVR to record a series, I run into the problem of it recording every time the show is on, no matter if it is a repeat or not. Am I missing something? Could someone explain how to set up my DVR to record a series but ONLY the first run shows?

I've only had Direct TV since last Saturday but here is what I've noticed. For example I record all first run episodes of Late Show with David Letterman but I noticed that it recorded the episode that was on that evening even though it was a rerun. Ever since then I've noticed that when i setup a show to record first run episodes only, it will record that episode regardless of whether it is first run or not, then after that it seems to record as it should, skipping reruns and recording the first run episodes. It's like it assumed I wanted that particular episode even though it wasn't a new one.

I don't know how long you've had your HR22 but in the week I've had mine I continually check the "to-do list" and have found that after the first initial bugs in setting up different items to record, everything in the future is good to go now.

Also if you haven't already, hook that baby up to the internet. WOW, tons of good stuff available free on-demand. I was surprised how good that's been!

I set my DVR to record episodes of Stargate Atlantis. I set it initially to record all episodes when it was on a first run show using the guide. Today, Stargate Atlantis was running most of the day, episodes from 2005 to the present and the DVR "To Do" list had all of the shows for today and every day of the week! I had to undo all of them and then set it to record this evening's show individually. I cannot find anything that says "record first run shows only." Is there something like that in the DVR menu? If so, where/how do I find it?

If it is a show that is on more than once per day then it's impossible. You would have to set up a recurring manual recording. If your shows are on once per week then it should record 1st run only.

joed32: that may be what has happened. Even though Stargate Atlantis runs new shows weekly (they have not run a new show since December 12th), they DO run previously run shows throughout the day sometimes. I think they are running all previously run shows throughout the weekend and all of next week because the series has only two more shows before the series ends and the show is off the air. I still do not understand why this is happening with Direct TV's DVR because the exact same situation (multiple previously run shows playing on one or a series of days) occurred when I was using Cox Cable's DVR and it recorded ONLY the first run show. Clearly, it seems to me, Direct TV's DVR is not as sophisticated as the DVR used by Cox. That, or I am not finding the correct menu that asks if I want to record only first run shows. I have not found that menu item on the HR 22 DVR.
