Default Will Directv HD DVR Recordings Last Forever?

Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere and I'm sure the info is in my manual, but here goes:

Are recordings automatically wiped off my directv hd dvr after a certain amount of time? Seems like this was the case with my Dish dvr. But, I never researched it to find out why. I'm loading it up with HD movies while my HBO, Showtime and Starz is free. Just wondering if one day they will disappear.

As long as you mark them as Keep they will not delete until you delete them. The only way they would delete is if you run out of space on your DVR and they are not marked Keep then they will be deleted to make space. I have a movie on my DVR since early March that I have marked "Keep".

PPV movies will disappear 24 hours from when you first start watching them.

You can record a PPV movie, leave it sitting on the DVR for a while and it will stay but once you start watching it will be removed 24 hours later. There might even be a limit as to how long you can leave it there unwatched before it goes away. I'm not sure about that.

I don't mean to get off-topic from the OP, but just wanted to say that this is not the case for me. I order PPVs online only and can watch them again and again. I know that this 24-hour viewing period is fairly new, but it has yet to affect me. I have an HR-21 and don't have it network connected. As I said above, I only order PPVs via DirecTV.com

Now that they're getting cheaper by the day.

All this and a good woman to watch it with. Couldn't ask for more.

Are you ordering some of the latest movies to hit PPV, or are you ordering PPV stuff from the playboy channel and similar channels ? I'm pretty sure the PPV sporting events and x-rated movies aren't effected by the 24 hour rule.

Yeah, man, movies. Hollywood movies. For example, my wife ordered the Sex and the City movie about a week ago. She watched it then, about 3 days ago, and today while I was at work. It plays fine. Weird huh? This is probably the fifth movie we've ordered since the 24-hour rule was put into effect. The result has been the same every time. I have a couple movies still on my hard drive from a couple months ago. Surely I am not the only person who this happens to.

That's weird the 24 hour rule doesn't always seem to work. I'll try it next time I get a regular PPV movie. I'll watch the movie and keep it on the DVR for a while and see if it stays.

If your DVR craps out and you have to exchange it say goodbye to whatever you have recorded on it. I mention it because I've been burned twice by that situation. As a result if there's something that I want to watch.....I watch it and don't rely on it being there forever!

Yeah, I guess that's true but that's true for any DVR, VCR, etc... That's not what the OP was talking about, but thanks for pointing that out.

This is true for me as well. Even the UFC PPV's stay until I delete them. It says when you order them that they will be deleted 24 hours from the original air time and I still have the last 2 events on my dvr.
