Default Long Time Direct Tv User Price Break

Should I expect any price break consideration for being a long time Direct TV customer when I upgrade my equipment to HDTV? New customers for Dish get the whole nine yards when they sign up. Thanks in advance, WolfpackRon.

Default Long Time Direct Tv User Price Break

When I upgraded last month I had to make my way to Customer Retention. I told them I was going to leave for Dish Network if they did not work with me. I got a $250 credit on the reciever and install. So I paid $150 for the reciever, antenna, and install.

No one would work with me until I threatened to leave. Then they sent me to Customer Rentention and he was willing to give me a price break.

Keep this in mind, when it comes to Directv the left hand has absolutely no idea what the right hand is doing. Make sure you deal with Customer Retention or they will try to screw you over royally by telling you the package deal is for new customers only. NOT TRUE!

Default D* Retention

I have been a D* member for 10 year's. I have always had to buy my receivers and such because I thought that all of the deals were for " new customers". From what I read in your post, thats not true? If I call D* and ask for the HD package they will try to BS me ? If I threaten to go to Dish Network they will try to keep me as a customer and give me a deal on the works?????

Thanks for the info!

You are correct. I have been a D* customer for about 6 years and I just upgraded to the HD Tivo. The final price for the HD Tivo was $299. That is with all the price breaks, rebates and deals from D*. D* gave me $200 credit toward my receiver and a total of $25 off my bill for the next 6 months. Currently Best Buy had a $50 rebate so I finally could not refuse the purchase. I just called and worked out the deal prior to going out and spending the money.

I just called DirectTv and got the run around. What incentive is there to stay when I can go to Dish, get a HD receiver, a dual tuned dvr receiver and a standard receiver for the 4th bedroom(keep in mind this suits my needs, because they would have given me as many HD receivers as i needed) 3 months total package(everything including premium movie channels) free and 6 months HD service free. Equipment free and install free plus being a Sunday Ticket loyal subscriber they are going to charge me 99 dollars on top of the annual subscription fee to get the games in HD if I stay with Direct.
I saw a commercial today saying they were going to put satellites up that would give 1500 HD channels but noone can give any details so right now Dish seems to want new customers while DirectTv is charging 300 percent more to get there equipment. Am I missing something?

I plan to next week. What will they offer when you do? If its anything but free equipment I still have a hard time justifying buying their equipment for less options as far as hd channels and I am still a little miffed about the ticket 99 dollar hd deal.

I just got off the phone with D*, I asked them why it is I should not go to Dish Network. They transferred me to the retention team. The guy said they are launching 3 new sattelites that will be working by the end of 2006. The guy offered me $ 150.00 credit on my bill and HBO and Showtime for $ 2.00 a month for a year, plus $ 10.00 off my entire bill for the next year. I was satisfied with that. I told him that I have been a customer for over 10 years and that Dish will give away their HD stuff with a contract. He did not offer me anything to help with the cost of the equipment for D*. I am satisfied, thanks for the info. on this guys!

Default Directv COMPLAINT

I had an unfortunate dealing with Directv earlier this week. I had a second HDTV receiver put in my home. Called Directv trying to negotiate the price of an HD receiver down by threatening a move to Dish Network...got it down to $100 + "free installation."

Well the "free installation" ended up being a pile of donkey dump. The installer came out to my home and said it would have to be an extra $52.50 to fishtail the coax through the wall. I paid it.

I then called Directv trying to get back the $52.50 because installation was supposed to be free. I had wanted the receiver working so that I could "watch some basketball games this week." They tell me that basic/standard installation is free, but apparently running a coax down a wall falls outside the definition of basic/standard installation.

I told them that they negotiated a deal with me to stay with Directv, but had not disclosed what "free installation" had meant. I told them they screwed me, and for now on, they should change their verbage before advertising something that is not true to other customers.

I try to be level-headed and understanding with businesses, knowing my place in the relationship, but Directv's actions to me and others I hear from and read on this forum gives me a deep hatred for their customer relations practices. Its prototypical arrogance from a very large giant of a company. I hope that Dish Network, cable companies, or whomever triumph in the long run due to a better customer relations policy.
