I don't call twenty three RSN's much of an increase in HD. They would be better off converting the national channels being shown only in SD to their HD versions.

The press release was written wrong. This has been confirmed by DirecTV insiders. It should have read, "12 additional RSNs bringing the total to 23".

They already have 11 full time RSNs and they are converting 12 part time to full time.

Another board has determined that there would need to be 13 more HD channels not mentioned in the press release to get to the 130 HD total (unless there is some fuzzy logic involved).

The first change is rolling the legacy HD channels to mpeg4. The new HD channels will start in August. This is from a very reliable poster on another board:

Thursday, 7/31 at 6am EST

The following channels will go from MPEG2 to MPEG4:

206 ESPN HD
209 ESPN2 HD
245 TNT HD
281 HD Theatre
501 HBO HD
543 Showtime HD
259 Universal HD

The following will start MPEG4 broadcasting:

306 HDNet
552 HD Net Movies
390 NY CBS
392 NY NBC
396 NY ABC
398 NY FOX

Some have stated that our current receivers maybe capable already to receive 1080p and that possible a frimware update is only needed. This remains to be seen and confirm but shouldn't be a problem to reconfigure.

That kicks a$$!, I have Dish Network and their DVR is great but they need to wake up in the HD department, especially with providing HD locals on the west coast, I had to buy an antenna for HD local in Las Vegas, while DTV has had HD locals in Vegas for a long time, wake up DN!
1080p PPV movies would be awesome.

1080p HD programming, WOW!
