Default Unable to change channels when I first turn on HR20

Just wondering if anyone else has or has had this issue:
Whenever I turn on my HR20 and TV, it takes almost a couple of minutes before I'm able to change channels or bring up the menu. I'm able to change the volume though.
It's kinda frustrating having to wait a couple of minutes before I can change the channel.
The remote has a fresh set of batteries so I know that's not the issue.
Any suggestions?

I have this sometimes with my HR21. It is annoying. Usually right when I get ready to press the reset button it works.

I have HR 20 and that is the way it works. Also my Vizio LCD has a warm up period of a minute or so so between the two I have learned to be patient. Even when I turn off my HR 20 at night it takes a short while before it will even let me turn it on.

Guess these things need some prep to get the software in line before leaping forward!

I simply leave my HR-20 on all the time. It won't hurt anything to do so.

I tried leaving the receiver on, unfortunately it has no affect. It still takes almost a couple of minutes before I can change the channel or bring up the menu.

I notice you have an LCD TV: many LCD TVs emit very high levels of IR interference from the screen, or the backlight, and this causes the problems you are seeing.
Options to get around this are (1) use RF for your remote instead of IR, and (2) at least on the Sharp Aquos, turn down the automatic backlight control.

Once your TV warms up the IR interference reduces which is why you see the problem go away.

Forgive me but...
What are RF and IR? I'll give it a shot if I know what it is.
Thanks for the advice.
