Olympics in HD?
What's up with HD Olympics? My local NBC affiliate is only passing the digital signal, not HD.
Directv channel 84 message says this channel is not available in my area. What law/regulation has prevented me from getting the Olympics in HD? Thanks, mcgeezer |
Hey, mcgeezer:
Where are you located? Sounds strange that you can't get the Olympics HD from either the sat ch.84 or your local NBC ota. Do you normally get regular prime time HD shows from your local NBC ota? I'm located in the Baltimore region and am receiving the Olympics in HD from both sat and local ota. |
No olympics in HD
I'm getting NBC from KYTV channel 3 in Springfield, MO.
Believe it or not, I actually got called back by the station's manager yesterday afternoon. He says NBC basically screwed their non-owned affiliates. He gave me a lengthy explanation, but much of it was legalities that I didn't understand. It revolved around NBC's contract with Directv and something to do with the fact that his station couldn't get a simultaneous DTV and HDTV feed. So, to continue providing signal to local cable subscribers, they had to choose DTV or knock the cable people out of a signal. Like I said, it doesn't all make sense to me and I may not be repeating his story correctly but, bottomline, he was as upset as anyone. He and other station managers have protested vigorously, and he says NBC has committed to correct the situation when the winter olympics roll around. I told him I certainly didn't hold any animosity towards KYTV. But I am upset that when a local station can't/won't provide me with their HD shows, I can't get them off the Directv network feed either. My local CBS, ABC, & Fox channels are broadcasting at such low power that I can't get the digital signal 40 miles from the tower. KYTV's signal is awesome. The Tonight Show in HD is jaw-dropping. mcgeezer |

Im here in Grand Rapids Michigan and I get it on DTV Chan 84, and I have noticed that what I am watching was the day before, but hey, its still better to watch it in HD.
NBC seems to want to keep their market on the Games. If you have not read this article on Slashdot, the people in the games can not even blog or post on a site till the games are over, and or post any pictures or video they have taken during the games every on the net. |
