What is HD?

I just joined this forum an hour or so ago and this is the first thread I've visited. I had a new HDDVR and another receiver installed yesterday so we can get the local channels in HD. Had an older HDTivo that would not do that. Concerning the price increase - it doesn't bother me that much. I looked up an April, 2002 bill. Three boxes,Total Choice, Sports Pack, HBO = $98.05. My bill should go up $4.95 with the extra box and looks like the $3.00 or so for Total Choice Plus next month but my last bill for Total Choice Plus,Sports Monthly,DirectTV protection plan,HD access, and DVR service = $87.96. I now have 2 HD boxes, 4 regular boxes and except for no HBO at least as many channels as in 2002 and all for less than I was paying in 2002!! DirecTV and me have come a long way baby in the past 6 years and is costing me less money per month. I retired 1 1/2years ago and was very careful not to put any irons in any fires. I do a lot of TV watching, vacationing and a little fishing and I think DirecTV gives my wife and I a lot of bang for the buck.

Some are willing to pay for several other channels and packages they cannot get OTA. When the Discovery Channel and all of the baseball channels start broadcasting OTA, then I too may no longer pay for this luxury.

Please tale your derogatory comments somewhere else in regards to someone paying money for HD programming. Life is short and has many trials. If a family likes to enjoy HDTV and a lot of it as a simple non profound form of entertainment so be it. For the price of one latte a day at starbucks I can have the premier package ans have many choices for me and my family. We play board and card games when watching tv and find the 3-5 bucks a day a great value for awesone hdtv. Just saying...

Well it seems they already started, yesterday I decided I wanted to put Showtime back (The Tudors Second Season is starting) and I was presented with an message on their website saying that I MUST pick a new package in order to add premium channels because my base package (Total Choice Plus) is an EXPIRED package, and it wouldn't let me change, I called DirecTV and the reps told me same thing.

To top it up; I noticed their price increase being discussed here too, so if I want to see The Tudors I have to start shelling out more money and my bill will increase an aproximate of around $24 more per month I think when I put the price increase along with the new package I ll have to pick and the price of Showtime itself.

You probably have no choice, like most of us because you are locked into a 2 year programming commitment. It would cost you more to cancel than to pay the increase.

If you are paying for ota, you need to get a good old fashioned antenna, like I got, and ota Hd beats every HD sat PQ I ever saw! I live in the navel of NYS and still have 2 hd locals, with even more
if I got a rotor to aim it.

Some people like me watch very little network programming. Most of it is aimed at a very young audience, but I find some shows that I really like. Most of my viewing is movies and sports. I could never go back to OTA only.
