D* should commit to their price when we commit to 2 years of service. If we change anything, BAMM... they re-up your 2 year commitment. If they change the price within your commitment, you should be allowed to bow out of your deal without any penalties. It has got to be a 2 way street or it just does not seem fair.

Also, around here cable is cheaper with no commitment or equipment fees. However, right now they do not have as many HD channels.

I'm sure the D* marketing gurus know how much they can get away with before loosing market share.

If you move to Afganistan you will not have to pay these outrageous prices for great reception, Hi Def , etc.

We can get throught this, together.

I don't know about that! I manage a bowling center, and let me tell you, a family of 4 can easily blow $50 to $100 each night to do that!

Not what I would call economical!

Default The Greed of TV Providers

http://www.tvpredictions.com/2008/01...providers.html

Some words from the Wise:

"The companies continue to raise rates even in the face of competition and a slowing economy. They claim that they have to raise rates due to increased programming costs and infrastructure upgrades. However, I am sure that an analysis of their books will show that their annual rate increases far exceed those added costs.

The real reason behind the rate increases is greed -- pure and simple."

See Chirshey, even the guru himself agrees.

Even though Chirshey has no proof of the claim that the price increase exceeds those of added costs?

All companies exists for one reason and one reason only, TO MAKE A PROFIT. It is not about greed, it is about profiting. Greed is counterproductive to making a profit. People often get these two things confused. Like every company and every consumer in a free market, their goal is to get or give the best possible product/commodity, while reducing costs, and keeping it is profitable as possible. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It is this competition, drive to succeed, and profit goals which leads to superior products, variety, and economic growth. Remember, all TV providers are raising their costs and you always have a choice.

Yah, you do have a choice. I am leaving Dave and heading onto Comcast triple play, I will be saving around 70 bucks a month after the move =) I may lose some worthless HD channels but gained OnDemand and other things I haven't had being with Dave since 96.

Murdock = GREED INDEED

Ciao!

Whoa there hoss. Chirshey did not give any factual reason why prices should go up. I think I said "Every business in the world increases it's prices. They have to periodically". That's about as generalized as I could get without any facts, which I didn't claim to have.
The article referenced doesn't base it's rhetoric on any actual facts either. Just what he thinks an audit would find. Threads on price increases are usually emotional at best and factual at least. We should also be talking about the recent price increases in vegetables, milk, general grocery products, automobiles, clothing, gasoline, electricity, water and power, local transportation, housing, rents, mail service, package delivery costs, magazine subscriptions, air fare, medical care, just to name a few.
I don't condone any price increase, but I do understand they are a fact of life in our economy. that's why I always advise that if you want to make a statement, cancel and vote with your feet. You may not end up in a better financial position but at least you have made your point and should sleep better. Getting ulcers over something you can't control or won't change your position in, is not healthy and will never bear fruit for you.
Nuff of my rant.....

The quote I gave was directly from the article by Phillip Swann.....I think DodgerKing thought I was implying that you said that too . I was just trying to say, "See Chirshey, even the guru (Swanni) agrees. "

I think that got all misconstrued. I wasn't making a stab at you or anything like that. We were just kinda going back and forth and I was saying that even Swanni thinks its greed. That's all.

Default Kick'em to the curb

I am considering going ota solo....D* is mostly annoying to me anyway. If it were not for my wife, I wouldn't have ever got it and I've regretted it ever since. We only watch 5 channels off of it at most and some of them have local stations here so about the only thing she would loose is food network and ion....so let them raise their rates, I say good riddance to bad rubbish.

You go guy!!!!! Make that cancellation call Monday morning and free yourself of the bad rubbish. You'll feel like a new man Tuesday morning, knowing you put your problem behind you. Stick it to them. We're behind you all the way....

I don't like the almost 10% price increase for Total Choice and Outdoor Channel combined. Seems like 5% would have been more justifiable. Outdoor channel alone went up 50%.

But I have a question. What is the difference between "Total Choice" and "Choice"? Since there is a $2 difference in price, I'm curious. And since "Total Choice" is "expired", what does that mean to me?

Thanks much,
Steve

Thanks, I just wish my wife was behind me all the way....I am trying to convince her that the 55$ a month could be better spent on just about anything else....If I can convince her to let me cancel without a lot of griping I'll feel even better making the call.

P.S. I know I'm whipped, but you haven't tasted her cooking lol

There's always FTA...

I feel your pain. I've been a loyal customer for 4 years now (never had a need before) and got addicted to HD. The problem that I've been having are the constant billing errors and the hassle of dealing with the inept Customer Service reps that tell you too bad for you if you don't catch it. Are they that hard up for $$$

I initially signed up to this forum to find info on my Samsung SIR-TS160 and whether it can be converted to receive MPEG-4?

Any takers?
