Question for those who have it. I really enjoyed Smithsonian before it was moved to the Extra Pack, but it seemed like the programming was rather repetitive. Are they in fact producing more new programming now? It might be worth considering if they have a steady stream of new programming coming in, which didn't seem to be the case when I was watching it.

No, I will not buy it because Directv will not sell it to me! They insist that I cannot get the HD Extra bundle unless I update my "older" package to one of the new packages that they offer now. I will lose a good sports channel if I do that, so, no I will not buy it at this time because I like the package that I have now.

For me, the extra channels are not worth the money. They took universal hd and HDnet movies from me since they were included in my HD package in the first place. MGMHD just shows movies from their DVD collection, I noticed some movies would pause in the same spot as on the DVD I already have.

It's b.s. If it's about the money, they should raise the hd package up $1, and do away with the extra pack. I want all the channels, but I got rid of the extra pack. I never watched the channels anyway, but I do want all channels. I think you all should drop it, then they will have to re-think it and present to us in a different way.

I don't know why DirecTv insists on doing these things that really piss me off. I have the Premium Package, pay extra $10 for HD, pay $5 for each receiver over the first and now they want me to pay $5 more? They are not even good channels. What's the point? (I know, money). But it seems they could have packaged this differently so as not to light my hair on fire.

absolutely not.
$5.00 in and of itself doesn't sound like much. think of it as $60/year and it begins to look more like what it is. it's called "being nickled and dimed". add it all up and you are paying out you bazooka for the "privledge" of watching tv. call me old school, but i think that is absolutely crazy!

I think the general consensus on the Extra Pack is that DirecTv can "suck ol' buck" on that one.
