$15 for 70+ HD channels is a small price to pay.

How much is HBO on D* $12 a month and your complaining about $5 extra dollars.

Correct, this is a great deal folks. And dont forget, you CAN just pay $10. The $4.99 is extra for a few that you dont have to get.

Why are you all willing to pay more, and looks like very happy to do that.
“They lunched two new satellites and I am gonna help to recover the cost with my $5”, that’s king of stupid, unless you are a big supporter of Bush, who made you to pay much, much, much more for years to come.

What does it matter to you if we are ok with paying $5 more for extra channels. I knew that this was coming. Politics has nothing to do with this issue and if it did you would be WAY OFF on your assumptions.

When I moved to my new house and was talking to a D* rep I asked him if there was going to be a price increase with all the new HD channels. He told me that it looked like there would be and that it would be between $12-$15 more a month by the end of the year. I was a little tentative but after getting a feel for the HD Channels I would have paid that difference. Now knowing that it is only an extra $5 I am even happier. If people are so upset about paying the extra $5, they just need to remember it is OPTIONAL, and if they are not familiar with that word they can look it up in the dictionary?

You are wrong.
I have to pay $5 more for what I have now (HDNet).
DTV rep. manager said it’s due to HDNet price increase,
If you are not familiar with the word INCREASE you can look it up in the dictionary.

Actually politics does have something to do with this. It gives us insight to his views and why he is so upset about paying more money.

It is just TV. Get a grip.
It's not just TV, it's DirecTV! LOL

Yeah, it kind of a bummer that 3 of the channels we've already been getting have moved to a different, more expensive tier of programming, but to lose them (if you don't want to pay extra for them) is a pretty decent trade off for the 57 other channels we just got in exchange.

Think of it this way, the HD Extra Pack has 6 commercial free premium quality channels for only $5 a month. That's less than a $1 a month for each premium channel compared to HBO which costs $12 a month and shows uninterrupted movies like "Corky Romano" sixteen times a week.

Another way to think of it is this: they've increased the number of HD channels from 10 to 70 for the mere increase of $5. But they've given you the option to lose only 3 of your previous channels and still pay the same price you've been paying for years. Further still, they could've easily just increased the rate of HD programming to $15 and not given us the choice of a lesser tier. And you know want? 99% of people would've just said, "Thank you for adding so many new channels with such a minor cost increase." But they did give us two tiers so we wouldn't be forced to pay more money if we didn't want. I think that's pretty decent of them. Plus, it is costing DirecTV more to host all these new channels and they should be compensated.

Personally I haven't decided if I want to pay for the HD Extra Pack yet, but no one at DirecTV has increased my bill and I'm still getting the same channels I always have. I haven't been called, I haven't been emailed and the December 15 increase/change date is merely a rumor at this point. But right now I'm actually paying $2 less a month then someone who signs for D* today and gets the same plan as me. And I think that goes for everyone who's had DirecTV up until now.

Also, for the person who's complained that they don't like the new channels, that's a load of crap. If you like Universal HD you can watch all those shows on NBC HD, USA HD and SCIFI HD. But it really doesn't matter if you don't like them. DirecTV isn't trying to please just you. They're trying to please a mass audience with sports programming, food shows, music channels, movie options, all in HD. A little something for everyone and for those of us who aren't picky, we're a lot happier across the board. Happier than we've ever been.
