Default Need Help!!! in regards to HD & channel trouble

I've stated that during the Test channel run. My 9300 Feed was Great but my 9301 feed was Searching for signal...

So the new HD Roll out day comes & that DCHD channel that was tested on 9301 & which was now Live on 278 - Was Showing Searching for signal on my tv..

Ok I Get a tech in to tell me its my box. a few days later I get a NEW Box & tech out again, Nice guy, knowledgeable & patient, He hooks up the new box & I'm still getting those Searching for signal messages AGAIN!!! Well he runs through some checks & the sat was showing nothing where it should get a reading, He fiddles through it some more & we reset the box & get the locals up as they were'nt showing up & Boom for some strange reason the HD Channels that were saying Searching for signal. Are now hot n clear as a bell...

So I Tip the guy, He leaves & after a little bit the channel I had trouble with again sez, Searching for signal, but after a little cursing & flipping some channels, they return again clear as a bell..

Well just a few minutes ago it did it again 7:00 MST, Then as soon as I cursed & Turned the tv & box off as a mad reaction, I turned it back on & Once again those channels ARE Working again...

So. If I've been informative enough??? Does anyone have any clu to what might be going on here?? I can tell you he was looking at that satalite reader part & at times the signal was there & Not there, Till he got the said NON Working channels working, finally.

I'm just at a loss as to why a few of those NEW HD Channels sometimes say Searching for signal, then Come on again???

Gimme some feedback & Also let me know if I was informative enough... Thanks..

Matt

It sounds like it may be a faulty LNB, B Band Converter (BBC) or multiswitch. Since you get the same problem with two receivers, it points to these devices. I'd run through the HD channels, all of them, and see if all of the HD channels go away when one is gone or are there when one is there. Reason is some of the LNBs use a signal from the receiver to set the polarity from horizontal (H) to vertical (V). It may be that one polarity will work, but the other one won't. As you go through all of the HD channels you will find some to be H and some to be V polarized. If some work and others don't, then you can suspect the LNB or multiswitch. If the HD channels on the 119 and/or 110 sat works and the new HD channels (locals for example) don't then it could be the BBC because it needs to be functioning for the 99 and 103 satellites.

For a listing of the HD channels that are on the 110 satellite, see this link: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/directvusa110.html

For a listing of the HD channels that are on the 119 satellite, see this link: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/directvusa119.html

HD locals are on the 99 satellite. For that listing see this link: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/directvusa99.html

And finally for the 103 satellite: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/directvusa103.html

Maybe that will assist in sorting it out.

Those HD channels are on the 103 satellite, so that may point to the BBC. How about your local channels or ESPN?

The dtv guys are comin tomorrow.. The espn hd channels are great..

Its the newer hd channels that seem to be off the 103 satalite, keep showing hd, then Not showing at all and then say searching for signal 771. a few of those channels are animal planet hd, dchd, strzhd, tmchd and 1 or 2 others....

So thats about it. sometimes they're in GREAT, sometimes that signal search 771 message. My brothers is Fine and he had his hr20 put in last week upgraded from a hd dtv tivo from last year..

If you are talking about the HR20, sounds like one of the 2 inputs is bad. You can test this by checking channels 480 and 481. If one says OK and the other says "searching for sat", there is a problem with one of the inputs. If you have a multiswitch and it is not a Zinwell WB68, that is the problem. Otherwise, the problem could be a bad BBC, coax cable, or coax connector.

This IS The New Box Put in yesterday. The Channels that Were'nt Now are coming in but Sometimes Cut back out to the same searching for signal 771 message on MY set Alone, the Other HR20 like mine is fine...

Yeah the inputs being bad was the 1st diagnosis, then the New Box & some messing with it & then they came in, but yesterday the SAME Day I got the new Box, the channels were coming in n out periodicly....

DTV is coming Tomorrow So the MORE Info I have to maybe help him, Can't be a Bad thing, But Yeah 2 HR20's My brothers is fine, Mine had those channels Not coming in, got Another HR20 & after a bit of work, they came in, but were in n out All night last night, It's kinda Frustrating & Funny in the same breath

I'm thinking BBC. Maybe swap them and see if the problem migrates to the other tuner.

Everytime you change channels, the HR20 switches tuners. To test this, try the following:

go to channel 247 (tbs-hd) (tuner1)
go to channel 202 (cnn-hd) (tuner2)
go to channel 362 (twc-hd) (tuner1)
go back to channel 247 (tbs-hd) (tuner2)

If ch 247 works the first time, then does not work the second time, one of the tuners is bad. Could be the multiswitch, bbc, cables, or a bad HR20.

Shock your going to be pissed at someone tomorrow because my sat. is doing the exact same thing and no one can tell me why. They came in last week on the launch date and all was fine, but when I woke in the morning they were gone, I was getting the searching for sat signal.

I called direct TV, they can out Saturday and said my dish wasn't pointing in the right direction, they aligned the dish, left and the channels were fine, the next day the exact same thing happened. They came back out this past Monday and this time it was my receiver, the guy didnt have one on him, so they schedule for me to receive one today, I hate to say it, the guy hooked everything up today, new receiver and all and guess what, the exact same thing occurred, searching for sat. The guy even went as far to tell me to seek legal counsel because Direct Tv was lying to customers, he told me the sat. where the new channels come from is not active and that the channels weren't working. The guy worked for Ironwood Communications; after he left I called direct tv and they told me the guy was not telling the truth. Their schedule to come back on sat., I am calling Iron Wood tomorrow to speak with a manager. My channels come in sometime and out most of the time, we have the same problem, let me know what happens with yours, and dont buy the receiver bit or the channels aren't available because my friend has the same box and dish and his new hd channels have been working fine since launch, please let me know something.

I too have the same issue...Just called Directv and did the simple troubleshooting stuff...reset/switched the cables/checked cables...and nothings...all she could do is send in a tech next tuesday...damn...a whole week...

I get a signal strength of 24% on 103(b)...I'm thinking of trying to align the dish a bit..but don't know how to go about doing that...anyone tried doing this????

Default Searching....771

The problem I am having is similar. For example I have 4 HR21-700's. 3 have both tuners connected, 1 has only 1, and I have an older RCA using 1.

The other night one of the DVR's was 771 on ch. 278. I walk into the other room to check the other TV - as soon as I changed the channel to 278 on the 2nd TV, the channel came right up on the first one. What on earth would cause that? It would appear a bad multiswitch; would anyone else agree? I have verified that all of my cables are good.
