Default How do I get Directv in Canada?

Now that Directv is coming out with all of these new HD channels am I getting very interested in subscribing. Problem is that Iím from Canada. I was wondering what I would need to acquire Directv service in Ontario, Canada. The equipment I was looking at purchasing was a Directv Plus HD DVR and a 5lnb dish. Is there anything else I would need equipment wise?

Second question is about the billing. What do I have to obtain for Directv. Can I just make up a billing address and phone number and pay by visa, or do I have to find someone in the US and use their address?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Josh

Obviously DirecTV can't provide programming to a Canadian subscriber because they are not licensed in Canada, but more than that, after a Canadian Supreme Court decision it is actually illegal to get DirecTV in Canada. I haven't seen much evidence that the autorities are spending a lot of time going after individual users but they could.
If you do a web search on "directv in canada" you will find many posts on the subject.

Since it is illegal in your country you might be hard pressed to find an installer. And self install of this new dish is HARD for the average consumer.

I know I live in the Windsor ON area and there are alot of stores that will sell you programming for Directv, if you want an HD reciever it will just cost you more. I personally have a US address....relatives that live in the US and just pay on my Visa and have electronic billing.

Get a Slimline dish....I have put up 3 now and they are not any harder than the 18inch dish. The first 5lnb dish was a pain to put up, I'm sure that is why Directv went to the slimline dish.....1st 5 lnb dish too hard to install.

Do a search for Freeway Support they are based in Winnipeg. They should hook you up with programming. And hope like hell the CRTC disappears real soon.

The only thing good about Canandian TV is Hockey Night in Canada anyway and you can pick it up on D** with the Center Ice package.

Talking directv subscriptions in canada - how to

i used to do some testing for directv before, and after a while of no news i decided to check back one of the best sites i visited for the hobby and found out they were offering directv subscriptions for canadian residents... so i did not doubt to test it out.

they offer directv subscriptions for canadians with the total choice premier package .. includes hbo, cinemax, starz, showtime, encore.. and i could add one of the extra packages they offer (mlb, nhl, nba, nfl, playboy).. i chose playboy myself

i had to buy a new receiver, because only new receivers with an ID work... but it was worth .. it came in box new withe the access card i need, remote, cables and manuals. i chose the H23 , which is an HD receiver so i also needed to get the slimeline 3 dish setup for satellites 99,101,103 .. i used only to get the 101 satellite for std def but HD is worth it.

in total i get around 285 channels, and 200 in hd version!! no ppv support, but i can get quality programming.. im paying $450 a year but they have plans for 3 and 6 months subs too.. you can renew.

i got my order shipped next day my payment was confirmed and delivered within 3-4 business days... took me a couple of days installing the dish setup and after that i got receiver activated same day i reported i was ready for signal to be sent..

this service is being offered by dssftp . com which is ran by mili.. people in the hobby must know who im talking about

I think the reason it's illegal to receive DTV in Canada is because the Canadian government does not want competition with CBC and the other Canadian networks.

Also, they are afraid that you might be exposed to US propaganda and start realizing the amount of taxes that you are paying, eh?

Yes, they too are illegal under current regulations. Neither Dish nor DirecTV is licensed to broadcast into Canada.

Bell ExpressVu and Starchoice (or whatever they are called now) are the only licensed providers of Satellite TV services in Canada. However, neither of them are licensed to broadcast into the USA.
