I'm going with an ESATA enclosure and WD 500gig SATA 3.0gbs HDD. About $150 total.

Sounds pretty similar to my setup.

I'm not sure how much hard drive noise bothers you, but the main reason why I added the external drive was because the Seagate drive the comes with the HR20 was so freaking loud. It annoyed the heck out of me. I could hear it all the time, even when the unit was off.

So I bought a drive that was the quietest I could find, which I think was a WD, and now it's so much better.

Default Problems with Seagate Drive

I just tried hooking my new Seagate 700gb drive to the HR20 via the eSATA cable and restarted the HR20 but so far I am still only seeing the internal drive when it starts up. I even tried my second HR20 in a different location with the seagate but am having the same results.
Any suggestions would be helpful.....

Does it work? Others are having trouble getting this drive to work.

So would a "beyond micro monster mobile 1 terabyte usb2.0 external hard drive" or "Fantom G-Force MegaDisk 1TB USB2.0" work as well?

I believe it has to be an eSATA drive. I think the USB ports on the HR2x's only supply 5 volts, they do not handle data transfer.

Default External Hard Drive

It is the Seagate Free Agent Pro 750GB. Bought about three months ago for $189 at Costco. EXCELLENT! Just do it!
