I think it's bullcrap if they want to charge for those exclusive channels for two reasons. First because part of the reason D* is increasing the number of HD channels they are offering is to net more HD customers and with the new offering they should get a lot more customers and that means a lot more profit. Also, channels like MHD and Discovery Channel are really channels we already have. It's the only way we can get MTV and Discovery Content in HD. I could care less about HD Net and HD Net Movies. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Well, if you are still using your HR10-250 or H10 or any old HD ird; you won't be able to pick up those channels by the end of this month.

We had our seminar two days ago and they CLEARLY stated customers will still get the channels they get now regardless of package or if they have the old HD receivers, that was two days ago. They also talked about grandfathering them in but I didn’t catch what was said due to noisy people sitting next to me. They will continue by broadcasting them on both satellites.

I'm counting a total of 56 HD channels being available. The Directv web site says by the end of 07 there will 100 HD channels. Any word what those additional HD channels will be?

"up to 100 channels." Doesn't mean 100.

Their is no mandate for HD! The mandate is for all digital transmission which may be sd or hd.

If you think about it you are paying $15 for over 70 HD channels soon to be 100 that is not a bad deal at all.

Or you can say that the price you paid for the original HD was $9.99 and will soon go down to $4.99.

Also, for those of you upset at the extra $5.00, keep in mind, if you have Dish you would have to pay $20 for fewer HD channels.

Are you sure the HD access fee will go down?

Default hd for cable

Hd is only a cost item on cable if u want the dvr or if you are not already a 'digital cable' subscriber.

In both cases its realistic to expect some payment in those cases for hd.
Exception being the overtheair HD if u have the right stuf to get that.

Or for various subscriber channels (hd or not) but thats not a HD issue.

As noted here, HD has never been a cost item excluding the above aspects and for digitalcable users has always been free and currently always will be.
