Default Channel 499

I need to see if someone can answer a question for me. I received an e-mail saying that I need to hook up b-band converters in order to recive the new Hd channels coming in September. I receive and hook up the b-band converters as per the instructions. I also see in the instructions that once these are installed I need to tune to channel 499 and should see a searching for satelite signal. I tried the channel 499 and received a message on the top of the screen saying channel unavailable. When I went to the guide no channel 499 was even listed. I called Directv and was told I needed a dish upgrade from my 3 lnb to a new 5lnb. Well last Saturday I had a new 5 lnb dish installed. I asked the installer why I could still not see channel 499 on my guide and still recived the channel not available message. He said do not worry the folks at Directv do not know what they are talking about. Well now yesterday I see this new channel asking if I was HD ready. It also mentions tuning to channel 499 and seeing a message that says searching for satelite. Does anyone know why I am not seeing this channel 499 on my guide. Also who is correct the installer or the folks at directv. I don't know what I need to do at this point to assure that I am ready when these new channels start to roll out.

Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, HAIL2DSKINS

What model receiver do you have, H20-100, H20-600, HR20-100, or HR20-700? You can get the model number on the label inside the door where the access card is stored (or use the System Info menu).

SFSS is the correct message on that channel if it all works. The h20-100 is not yet able to use that channel for the test

You might want to double check to see if the installer set your receiver to a 5 LBN. Last week when I received my new dish, the
tech failed to update the received to reflect the new dish. Once I updated my H20-600 receiver and reset the receiver, channel 499
worked properly.

I have no clue about a multi-switch, but when I go to 499, I see it on my guide, but once it's on that channel, it's a black blank screen. No SFSS.=

There is a new update, that lets the H20-100 see the SFSS on channel 499. I just updated today, 1:50PM(Central Time). I would update now, I don't think I noticed that HD channels would have the [HD] picture next to the name in the guide.

I have the HR20-700 receiver. I went home and reset the receiver to a 5 LBM and all is well now. I can see the channel 499 and I get the searching for satelite message. Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

I had my system installed two days ago. Both receivers are H20-100 (are these newer/older than the H20-600?). The two receivers have the BB converters connected to them. The installer confirmed that I will be getting the new HD channels as well. Now, when I tune to channel 499, I get the following message: B-Band converter test channel "New Hd content requires a B-band convertor attached to ... If you see searcing for sat signal, it is correctly installed. if you see information slide then you need to order one"

I do not see a signal search!!! and not sure what the above means, any thoughts, Thanks.

Not all H20-100's have been updated to the correct software to work with ch-499. Being within a few weeks of the new HD channels, D* needs to start focusing on the H20's and get the software updated!
