Well, if you are still using your HR10-250 or H10 or any old HD ird; you won't be able to pick up those channels by the end of this month.

Default May have to get cable.

Just got off the phone with customer service at Dtv. I currently have a HR10-250. I asked how to upgrade and was offered a non dvr reciever for $99 or with dvr for $299. I was told there were no other options.

Default Customer Retention Department

We have the HR10-250 and freaked out when we saw that we were going to need a new reciever and dish. I realize that technology changes but really feel when you spend $999.00 for a HD Tvo reciever that you should get free up grades. It's really not alot of money $99.00 for an up-grade it's the point of it all. I mean really if I'd known that they were going to constantly need up-grading we would never have spent that kind of money for the box.

Anyway with that said. Dont give up. We talked to 7 people today about our delema. One customer service person gave us the 299.00 price. One customer service person gave us the 99.00 price. 4 customer service reps were just down right rude. Lecturing me about how technology changes and I shouldn't expect to get anything for free. Alas. I saw that someone from this forum gave this number 1-800-739-4388 and then asked to speak to a Customer Rentention Department. I got the 5 lnb dish and HR20 for $19.95 billed to my monthly payment. With a two year commitment.
I cant tell you how many times in the past that I needed something from directv and would get no where with one rep and hang up and call back and get what I needed. So my suggestion is to not give up. Tell them you where at the directv forum and want to get the up-grade deal for $19.95. If they say no. Hang up and call back!!!!!!
Yeah it's a hassel but the channels are here this month finally! Definately worth not having the hassel of another satellite or cable company have to install and then you may get a good deal but you always get double billed that first month. I've had cable and Dish network.Directv nomatter how bad this situation was has far better customer service the the alternative.

As many have said before - long time lurker 1st time poster.

Current setup 3 HR20 & 1 HR10-250

I made up my mind to go ahead get the last hr10-250 upgraded today.

After this wonderful thread and about 20 minutes of patience i got an even better deal.

My new best fried Oscar, in Customer Retention - offered me a 99.95 upgrade fee with no new commitment (current contract runs through Jan 2009) - but the kicker was an instant credit of 99.95.

That my friends is better than $19.95.

My one problem was that it required a technician install which will not be until the 22nd. I found this hard to believe but with the deal above i didn't complain too long. My biggest complaint about that is i could run down to the nearest store and pick up a box and self install - but alas they never would have offered the free upgrade.

Thanks to everyone above for their help.

I couldn't agree more! I spent $600 for mine, and feel exactly the same as you.

My question is, like you, I own my HR10-250. Will you own the HR20, since you won't be able to use your HR10 in the future? Or are they leasing it to you? IF so, what do they charge to lease per month?

The HR-20 will be under the lease program. The charge is 4.99/mo. which is the same as the extra receiver fee. The advantage with the lease is if you have a problem with the box D* will replace it for you.

Directv doesnt send you hr20-700. It will be either 700 or 100 as far as I know they have no control over it.

I don't have the equipment problems you guys are having, I just needed a 5LNB and I got that free of charge. My question is why does the Golf channel and Versus have to share a channel when they have separate channels now. They are sharing 604, when they are already on 605 and 608 respectively. All of the other new HD channels seem to be staying in their current SD programming position, while the receiver is decoding which signal to send to your set.

Default New HD

I've been a DirecTV customer for about 4 years. I heard about the new HD channels so I called and I got the new 5LNB satellite installed for free a few weeks ago. Then I received a phone call with a message to call back. I called, they informed me that I would have to get a new receiver to receive the new HD channels. I currently have a HR10-250 Tivo. I love my Tivo and hate to let it go, especially with all the bad news I hear about the DirecTV DVRs, but I want the new HD channels. Some DirecTV subcontractors just came and installed the HR20-100S this morning. I hope it works well....

PS. No cost for me. Everything was free of charge. Maybe it's because I have the DirecTV protection plan. I had the choice of signing up for it and paying $5.99 a month for 12 months or paying or paying $70 to get my line fixed after my gardener's cut my line coming into my house.

Anybody have any thoughts?

I shelled out a pretty penny for my HR10-250 less than two years ago. Are we D* customers just supposed to factor a bi-yearly $300 equipment upgrade into our service cost? If so, D* is the worst deal in town.
No! DirecTV upgraded me with a new HR-20 for free. One thing I love about DirecTV is that I am able to negotiate with them. Throughout my entire 5 years of service I have continually received new upgrades for free with a little negotiating. At the time their advertised deal stated that costumers could receive either a free DVR "or" a free HD receiver. If one wanted an HD-DVR, they would have to pay the difference. I was able to talk them into giving me the HD-DVR for free, with a two year commitment of course.

Also, since Dish is currently offering a free HD-DVR with their service, I am sure Direct will have no problem matching their deal.

Its BS.

But hey, they are letting us keep the leased HR10s for SD broadcasts, they don't want them back.

Whoopeee.
I didn't pay a penny. Even gave me free installation and shipping.
