If D* wants to keep my business, I shouldn't need to beat the bushes to find the correct person or department on my own.

I've been with D* since the original RCA HD receiver, but now that Cablevision is offering more HD channels free as part of their digital service, and seems to offer premium channels D* does with no noticeable blocking, I really don't see any reason to stay with D*. At least Cablevision in my area has been very prompt is resolving problems and offering free exchanges of cable boxes for newer service offerings.

So, in summary, my 250 I paid $900 for won't receive new channels, but I will be able to get them on cable without having to put up with the arrogant CSR's at D*. Guess what direction I'm leaning...

You don't get what you don't ask for or demand as a loyal customer. Their job isn't to offer free stuff unless necessary. They didn't deem it necessary since you didn't deem it necessary. And your cable company won't be getting all the HD channels that are being slated to be on this fall as some are Directv exclusives.

Its BS.

But hey, they are letting us keep the leased HR10s for SD broadcasts, they don't want them back.

Whoopeee.
I only needed the new dish and I wasn't charged anything, shipping or installation.

Thumbs down Can I keep the HR10

I just went through the retention dept. and got the $19.95 deal. I was told the installer would take the HR10 as a swap. I was told that I would have to pay the full price ($299) for the new HD-dvr in order to keep the HR10. Anyone have any info on this situation?

I read on the circuit city reviews for the H20 that the HD receiver will work with the 3 lnb reciever. Is that bad information?

If you mean the 3lnb dish, yes, this is true. But without the new Slimline dish, you will not be able to recieve the new HD channels when they go on line, just what you recieve at the present time.

Thanks. I see on direct tvs site I can get the new dish and the module thingy for free but I will wait till I can get a reciever for free and the new channels are rolled out. I may just use an indoor antenna for hd channels till then and keep my regular total choice programing

I have a HD-10 reciever with at least 7 - 8 complaints to DTV because of constant self rebooting of reciever and constant no information of channels available leading to rebooting by myself! you think I could put up another stink because of problems on file and get a 0 cost lease of a HD-20?

Default Easy upgrade.....

Just hung up the phone. Been a lurker here before, but just registered to search and read.
Called 1-800-739-4388 (listed in another thread)
Went through the voice prompts....
Once I got an agent, I said "I'm calling to find out about upgrading my Hi Def equipment."
she asked "how many..."
I said 1.
She said, "That's a DVR?"
I said yes.
She said "I can get that for you for 19.95 shipped."
I said Great.
She said Friday the 7th okay?
I said Perfect....
Thanks for the forum. I helps to know what others are getting.
FWIW I am a 9 year customer and a HD customer almost 2 years....
1 hr10-250, and 2 dsr6000r's (one hacked....)

I talked to Directv last night. They assured me that my old HR10 will work with the new HD channels. They said all I needed was the B-ban converters. My HR20 already has these. ( I have the 5lnb dish)

Did I get lied to.

Did you have to re-up for another two years? If so, that's one thing I don't like doing. I already told myself at the next rate increase I'm either leaving, or dropping programming(I currently have all they have to offer). But I'm not paying any more than now. And what if I do nothing about the new HD channels? I have the HR-10 which I own, and a 3lnb dish. One theory is they come on line, and DTV decides to start charging more for all your new HD. But I can't receive them, so how can they charge me. They will either have to keep my HD billing where it is now, or provide me with the means to receive them-at THEIR cost. I get 6 or 7 OTA HD channels that come in great.

Well, maybe not lied to, but you got a typical DTV rep who has no idea what they are talking about and are reading from a script. They didn't pay attention to your model number.

So yeah, it won't work.
