Default Couple of Easy Questions

I'm new so I don't have difficult ones yet

I just got my HD receiver (no DVR).

1 - When I go to the Program Guide I have to pick "All" or some subgroup of programming (sports, movies), etc. Very irritating. I couldn't find a way for it go just go straight to all without having to select "All". Is there a way ?

2 - I have an external DVR/DVD player of my own. Can this be hooked up through the HD receiver or am I stuck upgrading to DTV's DVR ? I guess I must be able to connect a DVD player (haven't thought about it yet, just got it last night) so would the DVR just connect up like some run of the mill DVD player ?

Can't answer #2, but for #1, just press the guide button twice. No need to select "All".

OK, thanks, that helps a bit - although I really want to just hit GUIDE once like I used to

If an external DVR (or DVD recorder) has composite inputs (yellow/red/white), then yes, you can record from the H20 HD receiver using one of it's composite outputs. You just have to setup the timers on both boxes. The timer on the H20 will not power up the box , but if you leave it powered on, the timers will work ok.

If it's the same as the HR20, go to setup, guide, and change the setting from category to grid guide. That will take you directly to the channel guide.

Yes it does have the composite inputs - I've never hooked them up but as long as you're telling me it works, I'll figure it out.

I'm OLD school - all I had before was a VCR/DVD combo into my standard def TV - DTV cable into VCR and out into TV - so all this composite input stuff is new to me

Oh, and thanks to everyone for the responses.
