I just upgraded to the HR20 from the HR10-250. My picture quality has changed dramatically.
I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma and the picture quality has always been outstanding with a Hugh's HIRD E8 and then the HR10. Channel to channel the color level, tint, brightness picture clarity has been stable. My TV is set on auto so it adjusts the picture to the ambient light level. All of this has been great until the HR20. NOW - the color level and tint change with every channel selection and on most every channel the skin tones are too brown, no more rosy cheeks. I can tune to a great HD channel like HDNet and adjust the color/tint and the picture will be almost as good as the HR10 but when I change the channel or even when the scene changes the color/tint/brightness changes. I am connected to the TV via Component cables, HR20 set for 480I, 720P resolution - 720P Stretched, Native set to off. I have experimented with every setting I can get to and can't get the picture as good or as stable as before. Suggestions? Thanks, MC

When I added an HR20-100S a couple of weeks ago, I also had to rebalance the video on my TV (also a Panasonic plasma). But the new settings seem to be holding OK.

Looked at the TV again today and its not so much the brightness or contrast as it is poor color reproduction. The faces look splotchy at times and the picture in general looks like its over driving. Most of the SD channels look terrible. Example - HGTV and TLC almost looked HD with my old HR10 box. Now they look like I have a bad off air antenna on a Analog TV.

This afternoon I lost my HD Locals so I did a "Reset" of the HR20. Apparently none of the changes I was making the past day or so were actually being accepted. The machine must have been locked in a loop and would not update the Resolution settings, Native setting etc.... After the reset - all is good!!! The IRD is working like a champ and the picture quality is as good or better than the HR10. Thanks to all for your posts and help. MC |
