Default DVR vs Tivo- Switching between tuners

I have the Hughes D* Tivo unit and I just added the HR20-100.

On my Tivo, I like to pause a show & flip over to the other tuner. Then when that show hits a commercial, pause it & flip back to the original paused channel. And then go back & forth & so on until I have watched both "live" shows in their entirety meanwhile skipping all commercials.

Is there a way on the DVR to switch between channels without recording both shows?

I think you would have to quick-record each of them for it to work as you are describing, then use the LIST button to go back and forth b/n programs. I don't think you can explicitly choose your tuner on the HR20. I could be wrong, though.

The HR20 does not have dual live buffer, (DLB), like the Tivo does. I recently upgraded to the HR20 as well, and I used to do the same thing you stated all the time, but now I can't. However, it has been stated that this is something D* is working on for an upgrade for the HR20, but I think it is still a while away, if ever.

Default DVR Advantages over Tivo?

I've only had the DVR for a couple of days, but I see very few reasons the DVR is better than the old Tivo unit.

I can record HD content now, it can go back 90 minutes instead of 30 minutes, and it has the 30 second skip button, but those are the only advantages I see so far.

Anyone else have any DVR advantages over Tivo?

The Tivo will do local channels in High Def as long as you can use OTA in your area.

The real advantage of the HR20 will be when they roll out all the new national HD channels which will be mpeg4 and the HD Tivo will not be able to receive them.

Sorry, that's what I was talking about. We just got our local HD channels over satellite in New Orleans about a month ago.
