Default What about hardware?

I live in Los Angeles, we haven't had to upgrade equipment to receive locals, so I sill have my HR10-200 TiVo (i think that's right) that cost me $1k about a year ago. To date, I have yet to receive any guidance on what DirecTV will do to upgrade my hardware to receive these channels.

What should I do, call the Directv 800-number? I never seem to get someone intelligent onthe other end of the phone.

I don't want to wait until the channels are live then call in complaining that I can't get them. I also have no intention of buying new equipement. DirecTV better have a plan in place for people like me.

Yes , you will need the new MPEG4 capable recievers in order to get the new channels as most are scheduled to be in MPEG4 format.

Yes, you will need the 5 LNB dish in order to "see" the new birds at 99 & 103 locations....often you can get the dish upgrade for no cost..
your mileage may vary....

Talking New HD channels

DirecTV's new HD channels to launch on the 19th?
Posted Sep 10th 2007 4:50PM by Ben Drawbaugh
Filed under: Satellite

With DirecTV 10 in position, all the new HD channels could be released any day now, it appears now that a leaked internal document from DirecTV has revealed the day. While most believe that this Sunday the 16th, was the big day, this internal documents seems to imply that the day when the HD comes is next Wednesday the 19th. The channel lineup appears to be the same as we saw last week, but it's nice to get additional confirmation. The only thing we know for sure, is that all these new channels can't get here fast enough.

So much for their pre-Emmy bash. Maybe they can still get Brittney to perform for them. She's almost as big a train wreck as D*'s handling of the HD launch.

And here is yet another version of the story. Just don't know who to believe anymore, so I'm gonna just sit back and when it happens, it happens.

From a tvpredictions.com comment forum:
I was at a wedding this past weekend and one of my friends cousins actually works for D* corporate. He doesn't work in the "satelite" division, but said the rumor floating around the office was that they were having severe trouble with the new satelite and would be lucky to fix the problems before the first of the year. That's why they won't give an exact date, because even they don't know.
