Default Nielsen to Finally Measure DirecTV Subs

It has always been a wonderment as to why local channels "don't care" about satellite viewship; it was simply because those viewers have NEVER been measured/tallied as opposed to their cable 'cousins' by the Nielsen 'Research' Group. That is about to change:

The 15+ million DirecTV viewers will finally get their habits included in the figures distributed, BY FEDERAL LAW, to stations and station groups. Failure of those stations or station-groups to provide their signals to DirecTV for carriage will result in direct impact on the ratings those stations recieve from Neilson. This will in turn put pressure on them to provide those signals to DirecTV.

Meanwhile, station groups continue to beat the drums for big bucks for signal carriage.

With Neilson finally measuring DirecTV subs, perhaps when the next ratings come out, and those stations advertising rates tumble into the toilet, they'll realize the mistake of their ways; however, this will probably take at least a year to make an impact, as most local ratings are done on a quarterly or half-year basis.

Neilsen still has its problems however. We were approaches late last year to be a nielsen family. The nice lady came by to talk with us and look at the equipment we use. We got as far as my Beyond TV box. After checking with her "techs" they said they cannot monitor a device "that advanced" and we were booted from the program. I never even got to show her how I use orb to watch tv on my smartphone.
