Default How much $$$$ for new HD channels

Just wondering if anyone has any idea of how they are going to structure up to 100 HD channels for pricing? If we are paying $10 a month for the few channels we have now, how much will it be when we have 100 channels? Maybe a choice of different packages?

I cover all of these questions under the The new HD Channels which will be released this year as per press release!! Post, the second page I go into detail. I am a directv supervisor and this is the information I was updated with last week and trained my agents with. The new pricing takes affect March.

The new channels will be Mpeg 4.

The price increase will not affect current customers of the HD package, if you are paying $9.99 now you will not pay the $10.99 fee when the changes take affect. Unless you order new equip or change your subscription. The $10.99/9.99 will give you access to any hd channel that is avail in your subscription. Dtv will not be increasing the rates when the new channels are available. What they will be doing is the channels are already in your package and will stay that way, to view the channels you will need to pay the HD access fee to access those channels, this does include hd locals through the dish, hbo hd, showtime hd, you will no longer be able to view these channels unless you subscribe to this package, exhisting customers are grandfathered in to have those without an hd subscription but if ordering equip or change subscription that will change. The viewable hd channels will differ per customer depending on what package they subscribe too. If you have Total Choice Premier you will get any viewable hd channel when available automatically. (Mpeg 4 capable of course) If you have just Total Choice you will not receive an hd channel thats only offered in Total Choice Plus

For example

IF you subscribe to Total Choice and have the HD pack now, when the new channels come out and the Golf Channel is now available you do not get that channel Unless you subscribe to Total Choice Plus and the Hd pack.

If you subscribe to Total Choice and Hbo with NO Hd pack, you would be able to watch Hbo Hd presently, when the new changes take affect you would be grandfathered in to continue that option, However if you change packages lets say to Total Choice PLus and HBo you will not be able to have HBO HD unless you subscribe to the Hd Package.

Of course the names are changing and contents will be changeing but not much of change is going to be happening Directv is going to be offering more packages with different content and pricing. Some with the HD Access already included, some with just dvr services included and some with neither included. IF you do not subscribe to TC/Premeier I would highly recomend going to that package soon, that package is the only package that will not be affected by any price changes, it will remain $99.99 after March. Where every other package will increase.

Upgrade tp TC $99 and your are covered for now-- That gives you all the movie channels andall theother NOT Sport Channels.

I have total choice plus, with the HD package, and receive my locals in HD. If I am understanding this right, I will not be charged extra for all of the extra HD channels. I am not worried about Showtime HBO or cinemax. I had them, and find that I really dont watch any of it.

I hope they at least cut the loyal customers a break... but we'll probably have to haggle just like a newbie for a deal.

I hope you didn't buy into their propaganda. When they say 100 hd channels I am going to wager and say that means that thats how many they will have total but you won't be able to get all of them. Just like the fox sports channels.

At least thats how I see it, 100 chans at once is too good to be true.

I would be happy with half that. Hell, even 15 or 20 more would be great. NFL network, CNN, FOX News, SciFi, maybe a couple of the DYI channels or lifetime for my wife. Then a couple of the kids channels, and I would be in High Def Glory.

I just got the 5 lnb, and the HDTV box for $0, and 6 months of High def programing for free. I had to pay $60 for something (I forget what it was), but they are giving me a $10 credit for 6 months. The only bad thing is the new 2 year commitment, which isn't really that bad, because I am happy with directv. Now this is not the tivo box that lots of people want, just the high def receiver. I have tivo on standard def in the bedroom, which is good enough for me. That lets the kids have the big screen for XBOX 360 a little more.
I sent DTV an email stating that I was unhappy that I would have to spend $100 for the high def box, and that the cable companies gave them to their customers. They called me up within 24 hrs, and that is the deal that they gave me.
Also, with the bigger dish, (not huge or anything) I have noticed that it doesen't go out when it rains quite as much. I think I read that on here, or another site, but it seems to be holding true. Had a pretty good downpour the other day, and the dish never lost its signal.
Anyway, to answer your question, yes I was told that you do have to upgrade.
