Hello All,
Having been away from D* since May of 06, I've finally decided to go back. Back in May of 06 when I had D* SD service I upgraded my TV & had them install the HD DVR package. After a week of going back & forth with them on equipment issues I decided to have Charter Cable come in & install there HD DVR package. It was then that I wrote a detailed post on this site comparing the two (pro's & con's)as I had both of them at once both using HDMI ports. After having both services for a week we decided to go with the Cable because they offered NESN in HD & D* hadn't yet. Now after months of b#$%ing about the crappy "blockyness" (this is the term i use for what happens to my screen when watching HD sports & something is moving fast) my wife said told me to shut up and just go back to D*.......which I am. I beleave & from what I'm told, I will not experience this through a satalite signal, it occurs because of the digital cable signal. Since being out of the loop for while, I'm planning on giving the D*tech a 10-250 when he comes to set us up again. I scored a free 10-250 from work so I didn't have to pay them hundreds of dollars for there equipment. My question to any of you is this. Is it worth me using old technology with the 10-250 as opposed to the new H20? |

You must have the new 5 LNB Dish and the new MPEG4 receivers to receive the regional sport networks in HD as well as any new channels (up to 100 from what has been written) that D* will be offering this year, also in MPEG4. It's your choice but you will need the new technology to get the new channels, why not upgrade to the latest technology?

Steve.....I hear what your saying about going with the latest & greatest. However, I hate the fact of giving them hundreds of dollars for there equipment & still paying them a mint each month. I guess what I'm asking is will I see much of a difference from the 10-250 to the H20?

I'm sure you have read about the new H20 HD receivers....Many ongoing problems and D* comes out with software updates, which have been many as well. It's not very solid at this point in time so if your not in a hurry, you might want to wait. Right now I have 2 H10-250's and one H20 (non-dvr) along with the 5LNB dish. I can monitor the progress of new MPEG4 channels on the H20. Hopefully by the time we have many new HD channels, the HR20 issues will be resolved and I will get a couple of those. With that in mind, you might want to get the new 5LNB dish and one H20 (non-DVR) and include the H10-250 in the install. If your considered a new customer, they might give you the dish and H20 free. You would have to call D* and see what they have to offer. Keep me updated.

Man oh man....my heads spinning from reading posts on the H20 debate to MPEG2 vs MPEG4 to 5LNB. Holy S$#% can this get complicated/confusing at times.
It seems as though most people have really enjoyed there 10-250's & have read nightmares about the H20......what to do....what to do???? |

Well - I am going through similar issues (I too am returning but only after two weeks) I gave ComCrap a try and the suck beyond belief (in Vermont anyway) -
I too have an older HR10-250 that I was going to reinstall however, after reading about the new upgrades to their system that are supposedly upcoming and the thought of capturing another 75 to 100 HD channels I have decided to upgrade to the HR20 DVR's. I ordered two of them and an install for $199.00 split up over three months. That still leaves me with a third TV out in Limbo not sure what I will do about that yet as my understanding is that after the new upgrades all old equipment turns into expensive paperwieghts... I hope I helped... |
