Hey guys, I recently ordered my direct tv HD DVR and won't be getting it until mid Feb due to them being delayed. I currently have VoiP for my telephone here at home. I already have a standard Tivo DVR that's connected to a non HD TV. That is working fine. However when I got that dvr installed I did have a regular landline at the time. I read somewhere in the Directv website that you need to have a landline for the dvr to work. Is this true?? And assuming that it is true that I need to have landline for the dvr activation to go through, can I then cancel it after it's installed and have it work just as my tivo is working now???? Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

Having a land line isn't necessary, despite what the CSR's will tell you. All the land line will do is enable you to order PPV movies and events via your remote. Not having a land line will not affect your DVR's ability to record your favorite shows.
