Thanks for the tip. I just called and asked to cancel NFL Sunday ticket and was offerred the HD-DVR upgrade. It was quite nice to be able to "walk" them through the special offer.

Interesting.....now if they can guarantee that I will get a free upgrade to the mpeg4 hd dvr I will jump all over this. I just don't want to shell out any more $$ to these guys than I have to.

Does anyone know whether the HD DVR they are offering is MPEG2 or the yet to be released MPEG4 receiver?

If they are only offering the MPEG2 one, can we advise them to wait to ship us one till the new one is out?

Does anyone have a feel for when the new one will be released?

We are only offering the Mpeg 2 since Mpeg 4 has not been released yet. The word that we are suppose to tell cust and the only info that I give my agents and what I am being told is the HR-20 will be released Late Summer.

Answer to second question, no we can not hold to ship the hd-dvr until the new one is released it either call now and get the mpeg4 or call later and take your chances since this is a limited time offer. When the auto-renewel ends and starts getting billed this offer is over.

What if u already have one HD DVR, will they offer you another one if u do this, or is this just for people who dont have one?

The one part of this offer that concerns me is that when the HR20 comes out you may not be able to take advantage of other offers if you are only allowed 1 primary offer per 12 months.

That could work to ur advantage. Let the bugs get worked out before u go into the HD DVR.

Even if they come out with a DirecTV DVR, it will likely be a crappy unit (or at least the UI will not be as developed). Also, until they release additional MPEG-4 channels (no timetable that I am aware of), the utility of this new DVR is next to 0 compared to the current unit.

I got a free upgrade to Superfan and a free HD DVR when I called this morning... the CSR was very surprised that I knew about this.

I just called that number, told them the deal and was rebuffed. They said it was only available to customers who received the flyers and they have a database with who's eligible. I told them to cancel my NFL package then -- and they did. So it didn't work for me.

I got all excited when I saw this. Used the DVR4ME code a while back and got a directivo for shipping only. On my account at Directv when I try to order any HD equipment it only shows the SD stuff. I tried the code there and they offered me a choice of a recorder or standard receiver FREE, just no HD offered.
