Default h20 receiving ota signals

i have the 3lnb hd dish with a h20 receiver with a ota baltimore
the installer hooked my ota to the back of my h20 and he said
i needed a bigger ota. i took the ota lead and plugged it into my sony 50 sxrd and searched for signals and received all my local channels
my question is the h20 that weak in receving ota signals?
its a pain to switch back and forth just to get locals
and explain the waviers to me . Dtv says im not eligible but my friend
who lives 10 miles away gets all his signals on his h20 and has the waivers
any help?

I can only help a little.
If as you said you can hook the OTA up to your Sony SXRD and get all your locals, you should also be able to pick them up thru the H-20.
To this point , the H-20 had drawn rave reviews for it's OTA signal, so I think you may have a setting issue.

Did you go into the H-20 into the OTA section and have it search for OTA signals ?, You cannot expect it to find them without running the search funtion.

In reality, you picking up your signal off the OTA antenna will give you more channels than D* will give you, most channels multicast, thru D* you do not get them.

Also thru your OTA you do not have to pay D* for them.

I have had NO experience in trying to get waivers, I receive all my OTA with a OTA antenna

Just had my H20 installed yesterday to replace my RCA HD receiver. The installer said he could not hook up the existing OTA diplexer because he was told it was not possible with the new H20. I called "D" while he was there and was told he most certainly could. I had him speak to the "D"rep and he hooked it up with no problem. Later while talking to a level 2 tech rep I was told that with the diplexer connected I would probably not be able to receive local HD over the sat. when it comes on line in May. Certain channels, UPN,WB, PBS, are available only via OTA so I see this as a problem for some. Also, this thing is really slow at manuvering. I got the 600 series, is that bad?

i have connected my rabbit ear antenna to get OTA with H20 i get all the locals and in the setup the guide for local zip code is imported, there is no problem doing it, i don't know why to hookup with diplexer. now wgen i go through guide i get locals HD with DTV HD feeds and WB, UPN, PBS are also there.

I have a rooftop antenna and am not thrilled with maybe having to run a seperate cable for OTA. Hence the desire to utilize the diplexer connection. Line of sight is excellent here in Phoenix so maybe a set top antenna will be OK. I'll find out in May.

Just curious---do you have the 5 LNB and are you getting locals from DTV? Do you live in Bmore? I am a little south, but didn't think it was available yet.
