Smile Reception problems using DirecTV HD DVR box

I have an interesting problem that I was wondering if anyone else out there had experienced it and how they might have solved it.

Here goes:

I just upgraded my DVR box to DirecTV's newest offering and I'm experiencing a screen freeze from time to time that lasts anywhere from 4-5 seconds each time while I'm both watching a TV show live or replaying something that the DVR recorded. I first thought it might be because I'm feeding the signal from the HD DVR into a non-HD TV (waiting on my ship to come in before I upgrade to a HD TV later on this year) - but one of my co-workers who has virtually the same set-up as I do (and he's feeding his into an HD TV) is experiencing the same problem. And it's not really a problem - it's more of an annoyance.

I haven't called DirecTV yet - thought I'd try here first and see if anyone else had experienced this also.

Nope...and a lot of people have suggested options. You really need to check out the following thread on the Tivo Community Forum entitled Picture "Blanks out":

Bewarned - it may depress you

DogDoctor -

Thank you very mich for the info - you're right, I was depressed even more after reading this forum - what's amazing to me is that no one is willing to address where the problem is.

Thanks again - Mark

Angry

I guess no one at DirecTV is smart enough to put together the fact that this screen freeze has NOTHING to do with TIVO - it's the fact that the HD box obviously has an inherent flaw in it that
s causing this problem. I mean, it's doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you go from a non-HD box to an HD box and you start having the problem, it's gotta be in the box.

Oh well - I'll start calling DirecTV and complain to them. I like tilting at windmills.
