Default HD DVR "D12 System"/HD Locals in Greensboro

I just spoke with an unsolicited Directv salesman offering an HD DVR including HD local channels for the Winston-Salem/Greensboro area. He called it the "D12 System." His price for the HD DVR was $399 and $14.95 for S&H with free installation. It also included the Total Choice package and HD local channels for $44/month with Showtime free for 6 months. I guess I would have the first HD DVR system with Directv. I had called the day before to ask about this type product and was told that HD local channels were not available in GSO and are not scheduled thru May 2006. I was also told an HD DVR was not available either period. I then called Directv and confirmed the story I heard yesterday. Who might this fairly aggressive sales person be, a dealer or what. Thanks in advance. WolfpackRon.

The salesperson you spoke with was sell ing you a HD DVR that would be the HR 10-250, that is a MPEG 2 unit and they have been out for quite a while now.
When you called D* and was told they were not available yet, they were refering to the NEW HR 20-250 , this unit is MPEG4 , and is not available yet .... probably by june

Did this salesman want to meet you in an alley and pay cash with small bills at midnight? LOL

Jimbos,
I stll cannot get on my own post because of the "operation aborted" problem I mentioned in another post. However, he stated an MPEG4 HD DVR over the phone. He did not mention meeting him in an alley with small bills, but he very well could have been trying a scam over the phone. I have contacted Directv by e-mail and phone to mention the call I received. I was able to read your post by clicking on your name. Thanks for the input, WolfpackRon.

WolfpackRon,

Somwthing I failed to mention earlier is that after March 1st, receivers will be available to lease vs purchase, this might turn out to be a good idea actually, that way with new technology and bugs that are often found, if you don't like it you can return it or exchange it.
I personnaly would call D* back and ask your questions again, seeing you will never get the same person twice, you will probably get a different answer as well.

Jimbo,
The following response was received to my email about the above mentioned unsolicited Directv call:

Dear Mr. Parks,

Thanks for writing. I apologize for any confusion this issue may have caused. The outbound call that you received was most likely a local DIRECTV dealer. I have checked your account and there is no record of an outbound call being placed to you. If you ever have concerns about the legitimacy of an offer or call, please call us at 1-800-531-5000 and we would be happy to assist you. I can confirm that we are not offering HD local channels in the Greensboro - Winston-Salem NC at this time. At this time the MPEG-4 compatible HD DVR is not yet available, will have more information regarding this equipment closer to its release date around mid-2006. Once again I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Thanks again for writing.

Sincerely,

Lance
DIRECTV Customer Service

Coming sometime mid year. WolfpackRon.
