we bought a 52 inch RCA HDTV w built in receiver last week...we love it lots. we are thinking we can save on our cable bill by dumping TWC and instead getting directv...right now looks like they have a pretty good deal going on. my question is....I know we need the HD receiver from Directv but is the dishes the same??? or is there some sort of HD DISH???
this is the one that comes w the deal..1 DIRECTV Multi-Satellite Dish is this the only one? is this uniform for HD? I understand we still will only pick up like 4 HD channels and we wont get our LOCAL channels (we had directv about 8 yrs ago) so we will keep our BASIC 2-13 w TWC so we will have that. but we our thinking after the 3 months of good deals...that in the long run we will have lots more channels for like 60 some a month....where now we pay 45 a month for channels 2-78 w TWC....and instead of upgrading w them thinking od ditching TWC...any feedback? thanks |

oh and another wuestion....we are in zip code 45807...and when we hooked up an small indoor antennae could not figure out why we were only picking up for PBS channels and local TV 44 and NOT WLIO IN HD that is 2 miles away (it showed on the antennae site that I should be able to pick this up) finally after messing for days..I called them and they said it is not UP YET..thats why I was not getting it...so would any HD even be available to me if I go and sign 2yrs w DIRECTV?? I would be PI--ed if I did this and not get ONE CHANNEL of HD...o yea we are big football fans...so I would like at least that in HD...thanks

marisakay,
If you tell them you want a HD receiver, either the H-10 or H-20 is what you will get. (unless you want the TIVO dvr ) As long as you get a HD receiver you will get the triple lnb dish, this IS the correct one for HD. It looks like youm are in the Lima, Ohio area, and very close to most towers, IF you are using an inside antenna, you should be able to get most of your network channels. Except ABC, looks like you need to get that out of either Dayton , Fort Wayne or Toledo. These may require an outdoor antenna, although you can try the indoor, you will have to adjust the antenna according to the direction of the towers in order to get the HD signals, HD signals are not as easy to pick up as trhe old analog signal, they need to be right on. CBS, UPN and FOX are all in the same location, so if you get one you'll probably get those 3. NBC and ABC are in different dirrections. I would recommend getting an outdoor antenna, rotor and maybe pre amp. this way you can use the rotor to turn antenna to receive the different channels easily. IF you decide to getr your locals for FREE. I do not see Lima coming to D* any time soon. The closer I look at the antennaweb site, it only shows 2 local digital channels. In Lima, the others would have to be from other cities for digital, analog you would get most all Most digital / HD channels are on the UHF frequency, regardless of the number location. Hope this helped some. Jimbo |
