Directv error 775

Yesterday the power went out town-wide for an hour, following the power coming back, lost directv to error code 775 (problem communicatin with dish).

After extensive research online I found out that it's the power going to the dish. so i restarted the power inserter and checked all connectors to no avail. Called Directv and they told me to do the same thing, and no joy.

So the ony remedy is to have them come out on friday, that's 4 days and my wife will freak if she loses shows, good thing i also have cablevision.

Any ideas? I really hate to pay the 49.95 for the tech to come out and figure out something stupid that i missed.

While your waiting - What I suggest is to power (unplug) all your receivers.

Find your Power supply (swm) system Black box -make the outlet it is connected to has ac power (example) plug a lamp in and seer if it turns on. (IF YES)

1. go to first receiver (plug it in) and turn it and the TV connected on-allow it to start fully- (IF) you get a TV picture and all looks well- Go to the Next Receiver and repeat-one at a time.

2. Should the first receiver fail -Then I would suspect the Swm power supply as a possible problem (no voltage output) and/or a Smoked SWM LNB- either case requires a service vist or a trip to ebay fro DYI parts- But again thats guessing tbl shooting (on my part)

Keep us posted.

When you loose power -all at once and it comes on again -the SWM receiver can bump heads and go into LA LA land -the steps above may help you recover.

Well ! you didn't say that in your post and now my fingers are bloody (thanks) Hope you can get it resolved before KICK OFF

Worst case, I'll watch it on cablevision, less quality but still good.

Hey you could test the p21 power supply (output) with a volt meter.

Unhook it from ac attach a short RG6 -Plug the power supply in other end end of the rg6 place the BK lead on the outside of the connector and touch the RED lead to the copper end /set the meter to DC voltage it should read -21 volts, If NOT Search ebay for Directv 21v Power supply and save the Difference for the service call/

You may find the RG6 Cable damaged (burnt)

Unfortunately i don't have a volt meter. I have to get one moving forward.

But, interestingly enough the other half sat down to watch tv last night and everything worked, no 775 error.

Now the problem is: do i pay the 49.95 to have the tech out to see what happened or just let it go and get the SO pissed off when it happens again? Remember, keeping her happy (or not mad) is my priority.

I didnt' touch or attempt to fix anything yesterday and it just went on. Is it the ghost I have floating around or what?

Have you Run a SYSTEM TEST on each receiver? From The remote Menu -Setting-info & test --Press system test.

If It passes all is good-if not Keep the service call.

all passed other than the phone line not connected. My concern is that there may be a problem somewhere and this will happen again.

though, if nothing is going wrong they wont be able to find anything.

Earlier this evening i ended up with same error message. I measured the voltage on the coax and mine is 20.3 V. Is that an acceptable output to power up the dish or is it that sensitive to a slightly lower output?

DTV wants to charge 49.99 to send out a service tech which I strongly disagree with. I found PI's on ebay for $9.

Before mine magically came on, I asked DTV about that and they said i can do that, but many times it's a problem with one of the wires. They suggested checking the lines from the PA to the splitter? then to the dish. Where did you take this measurement?

I checked it at the output of the PI and at the LNB. So the cabling is good, and I i'm pretty sure the PI is good. Im starting to think my LNB went bad.

DTV worked out deal with me and sent someone out at no charge. Turns out it was bad connector, unfortunately the signal screen didn't refresh it self so not sure which one it was, but my guess it was the outdoor one.
