Hr23-700

Nearing the end of contract with Direct. Only complaint is response time on HR23-700. At times, bad, bad slow pulling up guide and changing channels. Seems to be slowest in the evenings. Is there a better/faster Direct DVR now available?

Why not check the Directv website and see if there is one you like ? Also, has the new Guide been downloaded into your receiver yet ? It, and the accompanying firmware should make things faster for you. .

Does the firmware automatically downlaod onto the receiver?

I had DirecTV installed yesterday and also received the HR23-700 DVR receiver. When it was first installed, we had the old GUI but after a few hours, the new GUI was on there however it was REALLY slow. Do I need to take my own actions to install this new firmware?

No, that's it. Things will probably be very slow for several days. The system downloads all sorts of data after initial setup (icons etc) and it takes a while for that to be completed.

Do have the new guide. Loaded weeks ago. DVR is my only slow receiver. All other HD receivers work great. Speed improves some early in the morning. Worse in the evenings. Had this problem at least 6 months, maybe year. Sometime the picture is blank for 5-7 seconds changing channels. Just looking for recommendations for different model.

I have the the HR23-700, and it is very slow. I have tried all the tricks and nothing helps.

I agree with the above comments, my HR23-700 is very slow. I also have tried all the tricks and nothing has helped. The GUI has helped the program guide when you go through the guide horizontally, but vertically it is as slow, or slower, than before. Before the new GUI it really helped to clear the NV RAM or restart the DVR, now that seems to do no good at all.

Maybe time for a new DVR? but not another HR23 or older.
